I'll try my hand at chancing back, if you do me the favor. :)

Your GPA/ACT is low, depending on the schools you’re looking at. No significant ECs. Your only hook is URM.

Arizona State University [And Barrett Honor’s] - low match
American U - low match
Bryn Mawr - match
Trinity College - high match
Cornell College - ??
Scripps College - match
George Washington U - match
UMD - match
Knox College - ??
Wellesley - reach
University of Chicago - reach
Barnard - reach
Grinnell - match

Thanks so much though. :3 I’ll admit my ACT isn’t the best- I don’t do as well in math as I do language- which plays into my GPA too. (Sadly)

As for ASU I assume you mean Low Match for the Honor’s school? ASU itself is technically my safety. Or do you mean low match, as in I’ll be more likely to get into the school? I feel a teeny bit confused by the wording of that…

And for clarification; Cornell College is a school in Iowa that runs an OCAAT [one course at a time] style schedule, and Knox is in IL- they have a peace corps program and are known for being founded by abolitionists (If I recall correctly.)
_

And in general, I forgot to add Connecticut College- I have an alumni friend who went there…and I’m considering asking her to do an alumni interview for me.

I meant you would be more likely to get in … figured it was probably your safety as you’re from AZ but wasn’t too sure.

Ah, I see. It is- although I would try to get into the honor’s school, which is less of a safety thing. Heh. :3

Anyone else?

Barnar- not sure.
Grinnell- match

your EC’s will be fine. You’re not going for ivies, simply good schools. people on CC are so used to national champions and international recipients, that a normal-er person can never get chanced accurately. Your ACT is within ranges for your choice schools. minus U-Chicago, but like I said crapshoot on the essays.you dont need a higher ACT, just emphasize something in your ECs and hopefully your class rigor is generally higher to possibly even explain away the GPA to places like Chicago. ultimately, your GPA should not stop you from any of these schools, but other factors might. It might be too late to add more ECs. but I guess if you raise your ACT to a 28 even your chances increase. if you’ve only taken it once, then this is a good choice if more than once, perhaps try your luck at the SAT thats what Im doing.
good luck and chance back.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/743096-chance-lifetime.html

Thanks 92jjxx and ForsakenOne- I chanced you both back.

My goal is deff to raise my GPA this coming year, but I don’t think I’ll be able to hit 30 on the ACT. [My SATs were lower, and I have taken both tests twice.] My weakness is the math section- my reading was at the top for both the SAT and the ACT and writing was in the higher median…it is my math that is low. I’ve had six math teachers in three years which has…sort of shot my chances at understanding any of it. Hahah. I could take it a third time, but I’m worried how that would look…

I’m happy with my ECs, which in the long run, is all that really matters to me. I put tons of time into all of them, and I’m passionate about it. I would do more volunteer work, but right now I work with a Librarian whom I’ve known for 11 years and I couldn’t be happier. And for the forum moderation and comics convention volunteering, I’m surrounded by fun people who are all really into social culture and politics (funnily enough.) Being a comics geek and writer really sparked my verve for politics because those subjects collide more than one would think. There was a point where I thought I’d want to go Ivy, but so far, there have been too many other ‘good schools’ that impressed me.

And UChi is my reach because I think I’m pretty good at essays, and that part of the application really attracted me to look at the school more. Thanks.

Hmmm…you have an eclectic list of colleges.
ASU is a safety (very much so), and Chicago, Cornell, and Wash are reaches. All the other ones seem to pretty good matches IMO. Grinnell and Scripps sound like the closest matches to me.

Your big problem in my POV is the ACT scores. What about SAT?

Oh no no no…not Cornell the Ivy. Cornell College is a small LAC in Iowa. :3

[Not in Ithaca - Cornell College](http://cornellcollege.edu/about-cornell/not-in-ithaca.shtml)

Haha. Easy mistake to make. I feel Cornell College is a range school for me.

And as I said earlier, I did better on the ACT than the SAT. I have taken both exams twice. The eclectic nature is due to my being eclectic. xD

Well then…THAT Cornell seems like a pretty good fit for you.

Haha, yeah. Ithaca has no appeal for me-- all I saw was the viewbook, but I didn’t feel like it would be right. It’s an amazing school- the Ivy - but the one in Iowa is more my style.

Thank you for giving your opinion. :)

Yeah, I hate Cornell the Ivy. Iowa is an amazing place in SO many ways. If you like community feel where people aren’t being nice to get something, but just because they’re nice- you’ll love Cornell. I have family there, but I also don’t really want to go there…because I have family there. :D

I know what you mean by the family thing- although i have tons of family everywhere so… i’m just avoiding close family.

My best friend bikes Ragbrai over summers in Iowa, and she said she stopped at Cornell, and that she thinks it’d be perfect for me. So the added bonus of knowing everyone is nice is great. :D

Arizona State University [And Barrett Honor’s] - kind of a low match
American U - match
Bryn Mawr - match
Trinity College - high match
Cornell College - med reach
Scripps College - high match low reach
George Washington U - match
UMD - match
Knox College - low match
Wellesley - Idk, reach
University of Chicago - reach, unless you’re an ace essayist
Barnard - match
Grinnell - idk

Thanks- although I feel like I should clarify again that Cornell College is not an ivy league school. It is a LAC in Iowa.

[Bump?]

Small bump. :)

I’m not sure how much being an underrepresented minority will help, but with the exception of chicago and cornell, these schools can be likelys if you just work on your standardized testing.

Thanks baconchedda, I may try to re-take the ACT. Although I’m (hoping) guessing you have your Cornells confused. I will not be applying to the Ivy, but a LAC in Iowa- Cornell College, as opposed to Uni.
