Chance a goon for ED

I am a pretty mediocre kid applying ED to the SESP. Give me all the chances and I'll return the favor w/ some candid, if inexperienced, thoughts of my own

GPA: 3.77 UW (upward trend)
Class Rank: top 14%
SAT: 2340 superscore (800 CR and W, 740 M)
SAT II: 710 US History
AP: 4 on Calc AB, 5 on World, US History, US Gov, Lit, Lang, and Bio
IB: 39 point diploma, 7/6/5 on HL's
Current Schedule: community college IR and public speaking classes (finished all AP/IB humanities courses), AP Statistics and AP Environmental Science, internship class
Awards: nothing fancy, the usual National Merit Semifinalist and AP Scholar with Distinction goop

EC's:
- psychology research assistant at local university lab
- 3 years of debate, founder/captain, first in state and top-15 at national tournaments
- 4 years of flute, All-State and such
- freelance graphic and web designer
- helped to organize and run a youth battle of the bands event, raising over $8000 for local arts education

Recs: outstanding
Essays: 8.5/10
Hooks: none lol i'm the literal convergence of unfortunate demographical characteristics

Demonstrated interest woohoo etc.

You do have solid SAT and AP scores and outstandng reccos. And your academic graph shows an upward trend as you say. With the ECs mentioned, you do have a chance. Good Luck!

Goon? BTW, you’ve got an excellent chance. Good luck.

proximanova,
You have solid academics but SESP is a small school with a particular focus. Does your application show how your current and past interests would lead you to be applying to that particular school at NU? They’ll want to know that what you wish to pursue in SESP has some basis. Good luck!

yes - I wrote about how my experiences being a twice-exceptional student in a competitive high school, as well as my internship with my particular psychology lab, have sparked my interest in educational advocacy and reform for gifted students with learning disabilities. That was a large component of my “Why NU” essay. My counselor and teacher recommendations also detailed my interest in that respect. would you consider this sufficient?

edit: probably irrelevant but the reason for my very low early grades was undiagnosed severe ADHD among other learning issues (hence the twice-exceptional thing). Since I began medication halfway through my sophomore year, I have gotten all A’s with the exception of one B.

It is good that you made NU aware of your ADHD issues and the subsequent treatment; that will definitely put in proper perspective the upward trend. You do have solid chances in the ED round.
