I disagree with RML’s post about your GPA being too low for Berkeley. I have known people who have gotten into Berkeley with a GPA lower than yours (granted that they had more EC, but thats not the point).

I think you have a good chance at all of them.

UCLA - low reach
Berkeley - reach/low reach
Davis - match/low match
Santa Barbara - match/low match
Santa Cruz - high safety
Merced - safety
Riverside - safety
San Diego - match/high match
Irvine - match/low match

you might have a decent chance at berk but you need better test scores overall

Berkeley’s getting competitive every year. Perhaps your friends who got accepted to Berkeley weren’t for last year but for last, last, last year. Last year’s average admits data for Berkeley were: 3.93 (UW) and 4.39 (W). http://students.berkeley.edu/admissions/freshmen.asp The OP’s GPAs, on the other hand, are 3.6 and 4.13 respectively. Take note that Berkeley weighs HS GPA MORE THAN they do SATs. And, I don’t want to sound a cynical, but quite honestly, I haven’t met, heard or known anyone who got into Berkeley last year with an UW GPA of 3.6 only. Maybe if the OP’s SATs are in the 2300s, then maybe, just maybe, the OP will get the nod from Berkeley. The good news is I am basing this just on stats. Of course, there are other factors that come into play such as OP’s ECs which I think are above good.

OP, if you really like Berkeley, I’d say, apply because wouldn’t really know unless you try. Good luck!

Thanks for chancing (clearly that’s not a verb =P) me!
RML really is blunt about his ratings…and I clearly do not believe that you are a super reach for UCB. You legitimately have a shot at being admitted!

UCLA + UCB = mid reach. your GPA is a little lower than preferred at these schools, but you may explain yourself in your additional statement. (ps. you still have a better chance than I do though =])

San Diego = match!
Davis + Irvine = low-mid match, very good chance of getting in.
SB + SC = safety schools
Riverside + Merced = are you kidding me? =P

Clearly your ECs stand out the most. It’s a shame that you can only list five activities for each sub category. Maybe include those in your personal statement somehow?

But overall, lose a little stress, because you’re pretty good. If we get into the same school, maybe we can meet up =P
