<p>Hello everyone. :) I'm interested in applying to some Ivy League schools this fall, and I was hoping to be able to get some input on what my chances (if any!) are.
I'm hoping to apply to schools like UChicago, Dartmouth, Brown, Cornell, Columbia (!), and Princeton. I'm also applying to a lot of safeties.</p>

<p>I'm a Hispanic girl, from a single-parent household, and my family's income is less than 40,000. I attend an underserved public high school.
(Just some extra info that might make a difference: my sister (who lives with us) is severely mentally and physically disabled; I have to help my mom take care of her constantly, and my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer a couple of years ago, and underwent treatment for that for two years.) </p>

<p>Now to the good (?) stuff!</p>

<p>Academics:
- 3.93 GPA, unweighted. (My school doesn't weigh GPA; it's been a 4.0 GPA since second semester Freshman year, because I totally screwed up 1st semester and got a 3.6 GPA)
- 2070 SAT score (I know... ewww...)
- 32 ACT (hoping to raise it in September)
- SAT Subject tests: 630 Bio E, 700 Math I, 690 USH (going to study for Math II and Lit over the summer, because my scores aren't too great)
- Taking AP Bio, AP Physics, AP Lit, AP Calc and AP French senior year. Took APUSH and AP Lang junior year. Took a whole bunch of Honors classes earlier years.
- I'm in the top 10% of my class</p>

<p>Extracurricular:
- Competitive figure skater of 10 years: Novice-level in both Freeskate and Moves in the Field
- I volunteer at my local hospital, currently at 250+ hours. Also volunteer monthly with children with disabilities.
- National Honor Society; secretary Junior year.
- Participant in Washington Aerospace Scholars (a NASA program)
- I'm currently taking Precalc down at my community college, because I was in Algebra II my junior year.
Those are the main ones; minor ones I'm forgetting.</p>

<p>Honors/Awards:
- National Hispanic Recognition Program (I hope!)
- High School Honor Roll
- There might be a couple more that I can't think up of off of the top of my head.</p>

<p>I think you can be a competitive candidate. I suggest you either focus on the ACT seeing as you did better on that or submit the ACT. I think your story is very unique and you should write as much about it as you can in your essay about how you overcame these problems in your daily life. You have very interesting ECs. I can see you getting admitted to the “lower ivies” but then again thats just my opinion. But yes I think also being a URM will help you and your kind of upward trend. BTW Princeton disregards freshman year so i think you may have a shot at that. Right now I would focus on improving your ACT score as much as you can and you should be in good shape. </p>

Yes, I’m definitely going to be focusing more on the ACT than the SAT. The obstacles I’ve gone through with my family’s situation are probably going to be the main focus of some of my essays, as they have affected my grades and test scores and such.

<p>Hey! Your GPA is really solid, your ECs seem average, being URM helps, and as long as you get some solid recs and write some great essays about that situation, you should have a fair shot at some of the Ivies and they’ll probably throw in some good FA for you too! :)</p>

<p>I would definitely retake either the ACT or the SAT. Getting either a 34+ or a 2250+ gives you a pretty solid chance at all of those schools and pretty much guarantees atleast one of your reaches. That seems to be the only real weakness in your application though, so shouldn’t be too bad. Good luck with everything!</p>

Yes, I’m aiming for a 34+ on the ACT this fall, just to be able to help my chances further. I agree with you, also, that my test scores are the weakest point in my application, but I’m hoping they’ll be improved!

<p>With your scores AND being arguably the most underrepresented minority in US colleges? You’re getting in anywhere. Except maybe Ivy Leagues, where they don’t give a crap how diverse anything is, if you aren’t legacy. But, even then, those schools are barely a “reach” for you. Everywhere else, in all seriousness, is a sure thing.</p>
