Hispanic male from NJ...

GPA: 88/100
ACT: 28 highest in one sitting, 29 super scored (don't know if cornell does this)
School at Cornell: ILR
EC's: Founder and president of charity to help a convent in the Philippines support needy children, Editor of Yearbook, Editor of Newspaper, AAU Basketball coach, Shot put thrower, Fluent in Java and other programming languages, A job writing about sports online, Service club member, Student Ambassadors program
Awards: National Latin Exam- cum laude award
Essays: Very good- could be best part of application- I clearly outlined why Cornell is ideal for me and how I would contribute there
Recommendations: Should be good

I know my GPA and ACT are on the low end and that I am a long shot, but I am hoping its possible. Am I fooling myself by thinking there is hope?

I don’t really know how much pull you get from being hispanic I’m sure it’ll help Idk if it’ll be enough since it’s so competitive
good luck though, I’ll be curious to hear the result

what are the subsections of your ACT?

Even though you’re a minority your gpa is really low… To be honest your chances are low, especially if your gpa is weighted

ILR is one of the easier admits, but “fit” still matters a lot. If you made a good case for why you want to be at ILR, then I believe you have a shot. I know a white male who got in with less in terms of numbers. He was also ED - and a full payer.

@kaytea11 - my school sends weighted and unweighted, for some reason I forgot to include weighted which is 92.5

@swimmer726- that is very cool, hopefully I have a similar result.

@themoonchild- superscoring its 28, 27, 32, and 31.

Hoping the 16th gets here ASAP! Gonna either be a great Christmas or a very sad one lol

@Swimmer276: exactly how low were his scores and gpa? he must’ve been a pretty interesting guy then

In what world is 88/100 a low GPA?

@Piegoodman in the Cornell world.

GPA is definitely going to be the weak point in my application and ACT is sub par by a bit. I am hoping my essays will be well received and my ECs can impress. Does anyone know if they track interest? I’ve visited campus and went to a workshop & admissions seminar for minorities in new york… Just hoping good news comes on the 16th, though I’m certainly not counting on good news.

An 88/100 is a 4.4 weighted.

Average for Cornell acceptances at my school is about a 4.45. It’s definitely not a low GPA.

@piegoodman- thanks for giving me hope then! Not sure my high school is much of an Ivy league producer though. Usually only have a few a year.

An 88/100 doesn’t even break 3.4. I’m sorry, but your GPA is really low, but you are applying to ILR so you do have a chance. It’s a long shot.

0.88*4=3.52 on the 4 scale.

This is a more than decent GPA.

I don’t think you realize this is a Cornell thread. Unless he is applying for HEOP/EOP his GPA is still low. Even though his WGPA is a 92.5, each school weighs differently. For instance at my school, we barely get any points for taking APs and honor classes

At my school the 88 comes out to 3.48… Either way my application would be stronger, I feel, with better grades/test scores. Hopefully a combination of ED and the other factors will have me as a member of the Big Red on Dec 16

Hoping too! Applying EOP so my chances are slightly better… I hope. Good luck! Anxiously waiting for 12/16

Good luck kaytea! Hope we are classmates next year
