Chance a Homeschooler with an average GPA and ACT Scores

Hey, guys! First time caller, long time listener. ;) I am a high school student located in the wonderful state of North Carolina. I am applying to places a little late. I would have applied for early decision, but I wanted to take the ACT once more before admissions. Therefore, I am applying for the spring deadlines. Please note, I am a home school student who has taken plenty of classes outside of my home. I have never taken any AP courses, which can only hurt me, I suppose. I have, however, taken college duel enrollment and honors courses.

I really want to go to UNC Chapel Hill. However, I think that is a long shot. I am hoping to apply to Appalachian State, UNC, UNC Charlotte, and Elon. If you guys have any ideas of colleges in the East/North-East that fit my profile, I would be so happy to hear them.

Anyway, here are my specifics.

Intended Major: Business Administration or Prelaw
Race: White
Gender: Male
College: Second generation
High School: Homeschooled K-12
Class Rank. N/A

Unweighted GPA – 3.7

Honors Classes – 5
Dual Enrollment – 4 (at graduation) Two taken so far, both A’s.

ACT Scores Comp – 24 (I am not a great “test taker” is the worst excuse I will ever mutter)
Critical Reading – 27
Math – 21 (Yeah, I know)
English – 26

Extra Curriculars:
- Four years of Boy Scouts in high school (13 total) including Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow.
- Three years of varsity football at a local private school including a captainship in my senior year. (They let me play despite being home schooled)
- 6th place in the regional Science Olympiad engineering event for helicopters.
- Two Week high intensity backpacking trip in the New Mexico desert.
- Lead role in church Christmas play in 2011.

Also, if anyone is interested, I would be happy to chance back. Although, you all know far more about all this than I do.

Appalachian State: Match
UNC Chapel Hill: Reach
UNC Charlotte: Low match
Elon: Low reach

Best of luck! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1590503-chance-me-uchicago.html

Thanks for the chance! I appreciate it!

I would suggest adding some less selective colleges to your list as deadlines will pass before you get your new ACT scores. Also consider colleges that don’t require them.

[SAT/ACT Optional 4-Year Universities | FairTest](http://www.fairtest.org/university/optional/state)

Not too far from NC are Wofford College, and Presbyterian College if they sound interesting to you.

Furman is on the no test list. I think your GPA is a good match for it. Don’t send your scores. Greenville is not far from NC. It’s a nice city and the campus is beautiful. Jan 6 is the deadline to apply.
