Chance a hopeful Yalie?

Stanford (EA :/ I have a better chance there than Yale..more connections), Yale, Columbia, UPenn, Northwestern, UCLA, UCSD

Korean female at a pretty strong public school in CA

GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.5 W
Class rank: school doesn't rank
SAT I 2330 (800 m, 780 w, 750 cr)- one sitting October sophomore year (idk if they would notice that I took it that early..)
SAT II 800 MIIC, 790 Korean w/ List., 760 Chem
4APs so far...(school doesn't offer APs to underclassmen)

Music:
Grand Prize or First place at a bunch of regional competitions
Soloed with local orchestra freshman and junior years
Played at Carnegie Hall summer of my junior year with orchestra
3-4 benefit concerts a year (my friends and I organize at least one of them)
Play chamber music at events such as wedding as gigs for money
Principal chair for 3 years
auditioning for San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, a really competitive youth orchestra

Planning to live audition at Stanford (the results from my studio have been good so far :) ) and send in a recording to the other colleges

ECs:
7th (freshman year) and 8th (junior year) nationally at Concours National de Fran

bump! I forgot USC and NYU :P

Low reach for Columbia and UPenn. High match to mid-match for NW. Mid match for UCLA, USC, and NYU. Low match for UCSD.

Stanford and Yale are reaches. You have the SAT scores and the GPA (though it’s important to note that your Korean SAT II score won’t count for much considering it’s your ethnicity), and you’re passionate about music… but they have too many of those applicants already. What sets you apart from the musical prodigies, the Yo-Yo-Mas?

I don’t think the music thing will hurt you at all if you are dedicated to it

I agree with AnAsian, you have good academic stats, and you seem fine in ECs (it’s okay if it’s just music), but you have to show in your essays how you stand out from the rest of the musicians be it leadership, innovation, or just a good personality; Essays are big for Stanford and Yale

“Stanford (EA  I have a better chance there than Yale…more connections)”

Despicable.

I knoww  I guess college admissions brings out the best and worst out of everyone. Both are such awesome (sorry couldn’t think of another fitting word) schools and I would jump up and down and cry were I accepted to either one.

Do you like Yale better? I would actually advise you apply to Yale SCEA if you truly have connections at Stanford.

If you apply at Stanford, you’re going to have no chance at the Waitlist, and very few are deferred (comparatively) from Stanford’s SCEA. If you applied early to Yale, and got in, you wouldn’t have to worry anymore. If you don’t get into Yale and get Waitlisted at Stanford, that’s probably where your connections will help you more.

But what do I know? I’m just a kid.

Stanford- low- mid reach
Yale - reach
Columbia- low reach
UPenn -low reach
Northwestern - match
UCLA - high safety
UCSD - i would punch an admissions officer in the face if you didnt get in (safety)

Chance me back please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/928401-chance-me-berkeley-swarthmore-cornell-will-chance-back.html

ohh that kind of makes sense…I was just wondering could having connections really make or break a waitlist?
