Chance a hs senior for u of m

Hello, I would like to know if I have a good chance of being admitted to UofM. I'll be applying this fall Early Action. I visited this past spring and will be sure to show that I have a big interest in UofM.
My stats:
GPA- W: 3.73
ACT- Comp. 25
AP: Lang, Government, Lit, World History
EC:
Class secretary for the junior class
Most likely class sec. for senior class also
Editor in chief of school newspaper
National Honor Society
Theatre
Government competition
Co-chair of school's chapter of Young Democrats of America
Member of Amnesty int.
Orchestra for 4yrs
I'm African American, so I hope that this helps.

Please give an honest assessment, thanks!

Retake your ACT, you need at the very least a 30+ to be competitive to be perfectly honest, esp with your GPA. Your extracurricular look fine. I would say that as of now it is a mid to high reach for you. If you work your tail off this summer and hit a 30+ ACT I would say it would be a low reach for you.

Also, make sure you nail your essays. UMich, probably more than any other state school, really cares a lot about your writing.

Also, take everything that is said on this website with a grain of salt. None of us are admissions officers and none of us know 100% what any school really wants. More often than not, you will either be given an unrealistically positive, or unrealistically negative opinion on your stats.

Good luck!

It’s a longshot at best right now. You’re GPA is out of range too with a 3.7 weighted. You’d have to significantly up the ACT to have a shot.

It’s gonna be a reach. The average admitted student has a 3.83 unweighted GPA along with a 31 ACT. Your extracurriculars seem pretty good from what you’ve told us, but they aren’t good enough to counteract your low GPA and ACT in my opinion. University of Michigan does not give preference to any race or gender in admissions since they changed their policy in 2006, so being African American isn’t going to help you get admitted (although it might help you get scholarships if you get in).

The best way to improve your chances at this point is to retake the ACT (and maybe try the SAT if you think you would do better), and make certain that you have a really good GPA for the first semester of your senior year. Also, you should apply EA since doing so is a great way to show demonstrated interest and boost your chances ever so slightly.

Good luck. Just make sure you have a backup plan.
