Okay, I’ll apply to Brown…But for the question, firstly, I really really like neuroscience and decided on the major with very careful thinking(I’d write a why essay, definitely). Secondly, I’m not bad at science or anything like that. Thirdly, it’s hard to do any ecs related to science in china unless you invent a gimmick or something. There are no internships, no competitions, no programmes, (there’s only one university in my city). And, my ecs just kinda of snowballed since I started them at age 7, but it’s not like I can predict what I’d do for the furture at age 7. AND, it’s not like because I have decided to major in neuroscience I’m going to give up everything in my life and sit in my house to think of a gimmick to invent…I do love all my ecs and my intended major. But, this is just the way things have turned out. It’s basically either this, or no ecs. I’d have slightly more oppotunities in Beijing, in an elite hs maybe, but then again, I can do with a Nobel Prize and maybe a Grammy too. :-P

If you are frieking out, You’re Crazy!!! Those stats are amazing… 4 Books!!!
Harvard would be crazy not to accept the next J.K Rowling

:-) Thanks for the compliment. Actually, I am freaking out. But I guess everyone’s like that.

oh i see. anyhow, your ECs are nothing short of spectacular and they make you appear more well-rounded. i think your essay will be great considering all your writing experience, with such an impressive resume your chances are very favorable! all the best! :)

anyone else want to share their opinion? :-)

First off, I’m super jealous
It’s amazing how you already have 4 books published. That’s awesome.
And it’s good that you’re a sophomore because you’ve got plenty of time to scout out some science credentials. There might be more than you think… ![]()
In the US, the biology, bhemistry, and physics Olympiad is a pretty big deal. Basically, students take an opening exam and if they pass they go to round two. And after a few more tests, the top scorers get sent to camp. From the campers, a team is picked to compete internationally. However, different countries select their teams in different ways. Even though you want to major in neuroscience, it might be beneficial to have a bioscience EC. China doesn’t advertise the Science Olympiads. They don’t have a website, but I found a pdf file that contains all the information. After reading it a couple of times I made sense of it, so feel free to PM me if you have any questions or if you can’t see the file. There’s an email address on the file and I suggest you email the person and ask about registering. Here’s the file: http://www.ibo-info.org/nbo/ChinaNBO.pdf
Hope this helps!
P.S. Studying for the olympiad is ALOT of work. Get a hold of college biology textbooks and read them through 5-7 times. Make sure you know your stuff. PM me if you have any more questions!
This is just a suggestion btw, you don’t really have to do this. I personally think that your stats are already amazing. But if you want to get into MIT, I would recommend participating in the olympiad :)

You have a ridiculous resume; any AMERICAN competitor would get into harvard with ease during Regular season. However, my main problem is that international student who file for financial aid is at a significant disadvantage because the schools have a bias towards giving “American” money to international students. My suggestion is to find a school that do not discriminate against financial aid. But apply to the HYP and other ivies to see what happens. Whatever you do DO NOT early decision; you will be legally bound to attend possibly with mediocre FA.

You don’t have weird stats! They are amazing ones and you’ll do great wherever you go. HPMYS is a reach, though.

Actually, China IS big about the Olympiads, lots of ppl go for it because if you win you get auto acceptance to great Chinese colleges. I’d love to participate but my problem is time. I don’t have that many grades on my report because of my ecs(missed some exams), so I have to work on my gpa and also on my SATs so I sort of have the plate full. But thanks for mentioning it, I’ll see if I can find some way to participate…

Also new updates to my resume would be
- Internship with an software company (finally, a science ec!!!) I’m still doing it, and it’s cool
2.Wrote script for School English Play, directed it, and got some prizes.(it was a musical~~) - Being a Biology Rep of my class (something chinese that’s basically like I connect the teacher with the students, collect and distribute homework…), and started a Peer Tutoring programme of Biology(1st in probably our city? it’s still new, but doing good so far). Science ec??

Also, I have my grades for finals sophomore 1st term and midterms 2nd term. last term was relatively bad(that’s when I first posted this) for I wasn’t at school much…this term is way better, A+ in everything except a B in maths which I am determined to top in my finals…so it leaves me with like a 3.7 last term and a 3.94 this mid term.

In China you don’t have a choice of what to study, so here are my classes:
Chinese
Maths
English
Physics
Chemistry
Biology
History
Politics(which really should be renamed social studies)
Geography
Computers-Programming (great class! we do have a choice for this, this is soooo the best)
PE-Basketball
Music
