Chance a junior for Duke please!!

So I’m a junior, hoping to apply ED next year… I don’t want to get my heart too set on duke (although it kind of already is), so I am just in need of a reality check…do i have a shot at duke next year?? my stats are as follows:
SAT I: 2040 (750W 12E/ 630M/ 660CR).. I know not that great, but it was my first try, and I’m taking the ACT on April 14th and am expecting to do better on that
GPA: 100.3 W 98.5 UW
Rank: top 1%, probably either 2 or 3 out of 363

Work:
Play the clarinet for local fire departments in parades (paid)

Planning on applying to trinity as a bio major, I know my recs will be AMAZING since teachers have asked my parents if they can write them for me, and I am really close with my guidance counselor, and she said she hasn’t been this excited to write a rec in a long time

Thanks for the feedback!

anyone?? i will chance back!!

If you get your SAT up to 2200+ or get a 34+ ACT, I think you will have a very solid shot in getting in, but of course it’s still a reach. 32-33 ACT isn’t a killer but you want your test scores at or above the 75th percentile (34 for duke) because the applicants who get in with scores less than the median are generally URMs, athletes, and legacies (who donate).

That makes sense, thanks! I will definitely try to improve my scores

Anyone else?

bumpbumpbump

I agree, I think you’d be a shoe-in if you raised your SATs, but even now it seems very likely you’ll get in. You seem really well rounded.

I wouldn’t say that anyone is a shoe-in for Duke or similar caliber schools, but if you get that SAT above 2200, then you have a great shot. Nice ECs and class rank.

Very likely at a duke with a 2040? No. You need to raise your scores and do something with your ECs.

yea i know my sats are not the greatest, but i don’t plan on sending them…i just took the act saturday and am pretty sure i got a 32+ and am retaking in june so hopefully it will be ~33-34…and waverly, what do you mean “do something with your ecs?”

Also, what would be my chances at uva/unc rd if i wind up not getting into or deferred from duke (or ea if i change my mind and don’t love love duke after i visit and decide to rd there)? i’m oos, so i know its harder to get in…i figured id just post in this thread rather than starting a new one, but those are my other top choices and i know they are definitely not safeties but what are they? i’d just like some opinions…thanks!

bumpbumpbump!!

bump…

For Duke, as others are saying, only if you are able to increase your scores would I say you have a very solid shot in the ED round. Otherwise, I feel it could be a tough sell. It’s recommended that you increase your scores for UVA/UNC but you have decent chances at both, plus extra if you’re in-state for either.
