etennis12 What’s your point? Does that mean the African American cannot succeed at the University? I’m positive if you got into MIT, it means you can succeed there. And your chances of being accepted even as an African American with a 1900 on the SAT is still slim, regardless of whether you’re a URM or not.

Wow, when I left this thread it was nearly silent and now it is two pages long!

Just a note, I’m on financial aid that covers nearly 75% of the tuition at my school, and my family lives in a small apartment to pay for my schooling. I agree that race shouldn’t matter so much in admissions, but there is nothing I can do about that. Again, I am by no means rich, but I do have it better than a lot of people and I am very lucky to attend my school.

RatinG: yes, they have offered those classes for a while to anyone who scores high enough on the seventh grade placement test to be on the “high math” track.

^not true, 1900s URM get in MIT easily

oh I’m sorry then, coffee and tea! I feel so guilty now TBH, though, your background WILL make it a lot easier to get into college. congrats on your achievements!

Dang, math is so advanced in high school these years…

bluenotebook2: no worries, I’m used to those misconceptions. thanks!

^still does not make ur acceptance deserving.

^You mad? Stop trolling and get some friends.

God, etennis, that’s just how life works. Stop being such a whiny ***** and let coffeeandtea (who would be competitive at most, if not all, colleges regardless of her ethnicity) have her thread back.

^Exactly. It’s funny too as coffeeandtea is a better applicant (imo) than etennis12.

^You have no evidence to prove that (plus that is no what I am claiming). Her stats are below the average at these schools. There is no doubt that her race gives her a huge advantage. Ignorant *tards like 2300hopefully need to *ing read a damn book. But, whatever man. I speak the truth and people get mad. That is why most of this stupid country believes in god.

etennis’s statements regarding race being a determining factor are true. If you all want to be mad about it, so be it; but it is true.

I think he’s more mad about the race issue than the rest of us. I admit that she has a decent advantage because of it. However, I wouldn’t discredit her (by saying she doesn’t deserve it) because she actually worked hard and has amazing stats.

^basically i mean she doesnt deserve it over other people.

Honestly though, for my school, I don’t think my GPA is too low. I’m looking at the scattergrams on my school’s Naviance page and I’m right with the people who have gotten in. Plus, my two of my three B+'s ever are in freshman year, which means Stanford won’t even use them to recalculate my GPA.

That’s pretty much the only stat you have for me, other than my 800 on an SAT II (which you cannot call “below average”) and my EC’s, which I believe are strong and unique. As for my PSAT, I took that without studying one bit. I’ve studied quite a bit for the real SAT and I KNOW I will score much higher than the “predicted” 2070 from my SAT. Most people graduate from my school with around 3 APs and 3 honors classes TOTAL, and I’ve already taken 3 APs and 5 honors.

For reference, the average accepted GPA at brown for my school is a 3.83, a 3.77 at Berkeley, and a 3.6 at Michigan. Only a few people have applied to Stanford from my school in the past few years.

I’m not going to apologize for being URM, there is absolutely nothing any of us can do about that, but you can’t just say I don’t deserve to get into top schools because of my GPA when you don’t even know the context in which I got my 3.84.

^Okay, I will make a better judgement when u get ur sat score
