And one question, I know that UC's are very numbers based, but how much weight do they give to essays and ec's? I know that UCSD uses a points system where they weight essays/ec's

Thanks!

ucla, berkeley, and ucsd use a holistic admissions process, which makes essays and such important. they’re also a great place to explain any holes in your application and make yourself personable to an admissions committee.

idk about northwestern, i don’t have a lot of experience with that school.

ucsd is unpredictable; it seems like you’d be a good fit, but weird things happen.

ucla and ucb seem more stretch-ish, mostly because you’re basically competing against your classmates for admission, and if a good amount of the 42 people above you applied, that’ll weigh down your chances unless you have something awesome to contribute.

^ yea pretty much all those above me will be applying as well, however, I’m fairly certain my rank will jump to 35ish to 30 after this year because of good grades in ap/honors.

I’m kinda scared now but I’ll just try my best and let other parts of my app shine through, and there’s always community college :)

Oh, and what do you think about boosting my rank like DRAMATICALLY? I know of a way that I can get to the upper 20s, I know that UC’s are rank crazy, so what I would do is basically retake that “C” (making it 0 credits) and get an A (during the summer) which pulls me up in GPA and ranking LOL

^UC’s don’t consider rank. The UC app doesn’t ask you for your class rank, and they don’t want you to send them a transcript. @OP, you need to calculate your UC Gpa to get a better read on your chances. google it if you want to find out how to do that.

^^but OP, you should retake that C. First find out if the UC’s will look at that new grade or the old grade in calculating your gpa. If they use the new one, then retake the class, if not, then theres nothing you can do about it now.

^^yea, I’ll do that, what happens when I retake it and get an A is that my UC GPA will go up, so its probably worth retaking
