@dorkyelmo sorry oops that’s my class size. rankings arent provided my ranking is approximately top 2-3%

Write a unique and memorable essay, it’ll make you stand out more to the admin officers than being the president of another club or getting a few more points on your ACT.

Lmichelleao: You curriculum vitae is impressive, it should give you a serious read over the next 2-3 weeks. You could certainly follow-up your application with an additional piece of writing either a short story piece of fiction or an essay describing your battles on the fields of Forensics and debate. Are you involved in any sport or theatrical endeavors during high school? Have you communicated with a coach or director? Could you visit campus to express your interest as a walk-on, if your not active.

Thanks for the feedback everyone (I realize this post is a little late). I was trying to bump this post, I would really like to get some new feedback on what I can do (especially since admissions just came out a bit ago.)

If you want me to chance back, I will happily do so, just please say so in your post! :)

You’ve definitely got a chance, that’s a really impressive resume! I’m a junior too, and Columbia is where I’m applying ED. I’ll PM you!

^clear your pm’s it won’t let me send my reply!

work on essays, not numbers. I had okay numbers (32 ACT, which I only took once and don’t remember sending, and 2260 SAT - 800 R 760 M 700 W), but got in anyway because of the strength of my essays and ECs. also, if you can get face time with your regional adcom, make a good impression. the Michigan one came to my school and I was one of two students to speak with her face to face. almost everyone at Columbia has outstanding stats, so focus less on those and spend a lot of time finding ways to show that you’re a really good fit. good luck.

i know this is random, but based on some of your comments i’m almost certain we went to the same high school

specifically, i’m talking about the ~1100 students with no ranking system and also the inclusion of fmp and project dance in your activities. you can private message me any questions about how I got into Columbia (SEAS '14), i didn’t want to mention publicly the high school just for your own privacy.

otherwise, you’ve got a solid resume. make yourself stand out in your application–a lot of applicants will have similar resumes to your own, so if you can find a way to connect with an admissions officer through an essay or short answer, that could be your ticket in
