Chance A Junior Who Likes American!

Thank you for taking the time to read my message!
I am currently a Junior in a Top 20 NJ high school. My GPA is a 3.8, though this year I intend to bring it up. Since freshman year, I’ve taken honors English, history, and math courses. This year I am in AP US History II and plan on receiving a 4 or 5 on my exam. I have taken the SAT only once and received an 1800, though this score will improve. I hope to pass the 2000 mark. I plan on applying to American EA!

Summer:

 • This past summer I journeyed to Nicaragua for a social action group through Yale. We not only learned about the country’s rich history, but we also also did community service in a small village. I worked for an AIDS outreach organization for three weeks. During this time I went to a state penitentiary and visited with AIDS-stricken prisoners. Among various things, I was on the state radio talking about my experience and how to fight AIDS.

American does not have EA but they do have ED which is binding. You have a good chance on ED but RD you might be competitive. But be careful applying ED especially if you are looking for FA. Good Luck! Its a great school my daughter is a 2d sem sophmore and loves it.

hey, I’m also extremely interested in American, just like JuniorXCMember!! in fact, so interested that its my top choice right now. And I also run cross country and am a junior too, btw.
Which reminds me, I just researched American and found it was D1 for athletics, does anybody know how good American is at athletics, in hopes of getting a scholarship, specifically for XC? (My 5K time is 18:25 on a non-flat cross country-type course, All-conference, region, and state, etc…). I plan to train way harder over the summer instead of sitting on my lazy ass like last yr., and lower the time to low 18:05ish, possiblly break 18?! And hopefully captain as a senior too! we vote next season.
OK, sorry for my rambling. I forgot that this is a college forum, not a ‘running in college’ one. Well, from what I see of ur profile, it seems like you’d be a strong candidate. and if you break the 2000 barrier on the SAT, ur almost golden. Just make sure you have solid recs from teachers and a killer essay. Good luck :)

Work on the SAT scores; everything else looks great.

Thanks so much! This really helps!
Jbabe, though American is D1, it isn’t the most competitive, athletically. I don’t know if you’re a girl or a guy (no offense). If you are indeed a guy, the time might be a little slow for a D1 school. However, if you are a girl, that time should seat you on varsity! Best of luck!
