Reflection

Strengths: stats, courseload and ECs
What you tried to focus on in your application - any hooks you tried to make for yourself: ECs and diversity
Weaknesses: Ivy League lottery; still don’t know what I wanna study (prob either business, engineering, or both)

I think I’ll be applying to some of the following (still unsure):
Penn
Michigan
Cornell
Harvard
MIT
Yale
Columbia
Stanford
WashU
UF (safety)
Carnegie Mellon
CalTech

I still haven’t decided whether I wanna study business or engineering, maybe both. I’d like to apply to schools who are good with both. If you guys could rate my chances (1-10) of getting into each of the aforementioned, that’d be greatly appreciated. Any personal comments are accepted and suggestions of other schools is amazing!

I will also be attending a summer program this summer! I was accepted into SSTP at UF but did not receive enough financial aid. I’ve also applied to SCEEP at UMich, and SAMS at CMU. I will be attending a two week program in Spain where I will volunteer to teach English to Spanish teens.

You seem pretty qualified. I would make sure to not mention every single accomplishment on your application because a lot of your awards are small. That way, your notable awards won’t be lost in a swarm of lesser ones.

Good luck

Perfect thanks! I will prob be excluding my 21st and 27th place awards… they’re annoying though bc my region in Mu Alpha Theta is extremely competitive in Statistics and when i competed, I obtained those rankings^^ but in any other of the five florida regions (which all took the same test) i would’ve placed top 8.

Thanks for the advice! @tooty44

I agree as far as excluding small accomplishments. I read through and noticed a qualified application, but it would have been easier had things that won’t really boost you much anyways not been there.

As far as schools, (and take my opinion w/ a grain of salt as I’m just another kid trying to get a grasp of which schools are attainable)

Stanford, Columbia, Yale, MIT, Harvard: Difficult. Certainly possible because you’re a qualified student and being Hispanic will help, but this is just the nature of these programs.

Penn, Michigan, Cornell, WashU, Carnegie Mellon: I’d say you’ll do well with these schools.

UF: I’d be surprised if you were rejected.

CalTech: I don’t know enough about this school myself. I’m more of a humanities focus so this one hasn’t popped up in my searches. Just group it with whatever schools it’s the equivalent to.

CalTech wants a really high math SAT score and yours is perfect so you’re a perfect match.
I agree with YaBoyTony on Stanford, Columbia, Yale, MIT, Harvard just because they’re so unpredictable!
Also look at Johns Hopkins - you’d do well there.

I just want to put out there that Harvard will always be a reach school for many and even though you may be the most qualified person out there, they will always be looking for students who they know will do awesome in college no matter what school they go to. However, by the looks of your resume, you look like a fantastic candidate! Good luck!

Pretty damn good resume. Like tooty44 said, focus ont eh major accomplishments. Obviously, schools like Harvard and Stanford are going to get a LOT of applicants just like you, so the chances there aren’t as good. You could probably get into Penn, Michigan, CMU, Cornell. Other ones don’t have as high of a chance. Good luck!!!

Thanks!

You have great chances for Michigan, CMU, and WashU. A decent shot Penn and Cornell, and as good of a chance as anybody at the rest. That being said, I do think that you’re one of the better applicants coming into those top tier schools, so I’d be surprised if you didn’t get into at least one of your super-competitive schools.

Thanks! @Asiankid1
