Leadership:
Editor School newspaper and magazine
President DECA
NHS
SHS

Extra curric's:
Reading Tutor for kumon
reading education/curiculum development internship for princeton review
concert choir

please let me know what im doing right/wrong and if im on the right track for these schools

Extracurrics are weak. SAT is definitely strong, Courseload looks good to me. Leadership looks decent. I think that you are a strong candidate for all of these!

Can you try to bring your math up to over 700? Your SATs look phenomenal otherwise.

Your GPA looks pretty good - maybe your senior year or the rest of your junior year will improve it. Also, do something significant over the summer - try for an internship or summer program (that is NOT paid for).

Can you take AP Stat? It's a pretty easy course (general CC consensus from what I know) and test. Ask your friends if they think it's hard. Is it offered?

yeah, i think you're doing all you can. i'm in the same boat as you with the 3.8, but stay strong the last few semesters- showing improvement is always a plus. i can tell by your post alone you are under a lot of pressure, perhaps by your own self, but chill a little. being an editor AND taking so many ap/honors classes! think long term, you'll have a heart attack before you can even graduate from college! ha sorry for that, but really, ease up a little, for your own sake.

To clarify, my school offers ap stats but im not sure if im going to get in because you have to take a placement test.

I'm probably going to be doing a summer internship at a local university and i previously did 2 JHU cty courses in the humanities

bump please anyone else?

...bump...anoyone?

I can see leadership in your and that seems to stand-out most to me. The ECs look weak, but I think the leadership can balance it out. The SAT score looks good.

i dont get whats the difference between leadership and ECs
b/c im a leader in those EC's s

Not necessarily. For instance, NHS is a good EC-- not a great one. I would say that's more of a leadership role in your school over an EC. Does that clarify your question(s)?

All I can say is that eleven people from my school applied to Brown with virtually the same stats (some a tiny bit better and some a tiny bit worse). They all have unique awards and leadership activities. It's really a lot of luck.

cast: DECA and school newspaper are definitely EC's , since i not only have solid positinos in both, i also contribute to both
deca- national medal
journalism awards

i know i need to get my sat score over 700 for math and i really want an 800 on writing cuz i got an 11 on the essay

i also forgot i took 2 CTY sumerm courses in the humanities and am doing social science research at UCONN over the summer and getting some stipend for it

what really sucks is that 45 kids apply to brown from my school and only about 8 get accepted...my school is fiercely competititve
and all these kids are equally as good or better since many of them take many more ap's since every single AP is avaialbe to students in my school

brown14,
We can only say so much. As much as we would 'want' to be college admission officers, we aren't. I would definitely approach your guidance counselor(s) and see how you stand.

Also, do you have any hooks?

brown14, then you know this whole process is going to involve some luck.

Taxi1113 is right. An admission officer might be more lenient on one day, and less on another day. It all depends on the situation and probability of getting accepted.

CAST: thank you for your help and i realize that its a crapshoot especially for an ivy league school
hoperfully i can network with the admissions reps at campus +school visits

i fogured my writing would be my only hook....i guess not
im working on submitting to competitions now

anyone else have advice/commentary?

how are his EC's weak?
