Chance a kid from Montana for the UCs

I am a rising senior this year looking for colleges. I already have a few on my list but I'm looking to add a few more. I want to major is physics and I was wondering which of the UC's I would be a good fit for, specifically Santa Barbara, Las Angeles, and Berkeley. My stats are:

ACT 32
SAT 2070
GPA 3.7, rigorous schedule, top 15%
ECs include: president of choir, xc, science and academic club
over 150 hrs at a local hospital
I should have good recs and will take SAT 2s in October

Just let me know if you need anymore info. Thanks.

Think you meant Los Angeles :P. But I think your good for UC Santa Barbara. Maybe get your SAT score a little higher for LA and Berkeley.

I believe you are correct on the “Los” part.haha Whoops. Thanks though.

I am amazed by all the kids who want to pay $50K per year for schools in financial crisis. If you can get into top UCs, you can get into great private colleges not in crisis and that may even offer you some aid. And good chance it will be hard to graduate in 4 years given section cuts, so it could cost you more than any top private.

That said, I think you have a chance at all, they need more OOS this year. Your scores are above average and your GPA a little below, but CA public schools have massive grade inflation.

Yeah, your test scores are fine. Try to improve your gpa and do well on your sat 2’s and you have a decent shot, especially this year…they need your money lol.

I agree with the statement that I’ll be paying a lot of money to go to a school in financial crisis and won’t get much aid because of that. The only thing is, I don’t know where else I should apply. What would be some good schools for physics that I have a shot at with my stats?

I never understand why ppl will go to the UCs OOS without a very specific reason. It sounds like the OP needs to spend some time on his college search first. Trust me, the UCs are great, but don’t apply just for the “physics”.

Also, plenty of CA residents are applying to Cal and LA with similiar stats as yours, so you don’t stand that much of a chance at those two schools (I have no idea what the fin. crisis means tho).
