Academics:

-I'm taking AP English and Spanish and next year I will take AP 3D and Government in addition to that.

Extra (I guess my "hook"):
I am also billingual Latina. Spanish was my first language, and even though I am now fully fluent and successful, I went into school not knowing a word of English. My parents are immigrants from Bolivia and El Salvador. I am going the be the first in my family to go to college.

My schools would be:
Dartmouth is my 1st choice, hands down (ED)
USC, Boston College, Georgetown, UCLA, UCSD,UCSB

I need a lot of help though. On my PSAT I scored horrible on the Math section. I know alot of people say the Math is the easiest part but I just don't know what's wrong with me. Am I too worried or something? I love math and I'm doing great in Algebra II. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I'm taking my 1st SAT on January 26 and I'm worried. Does anybody have any tips on what to do?

1st of all practice, practice. math is my weakness too. specifically, hard algebra/functions and geometry problems always get the best of me. I suggest you read from the Princeton Review math workbooks and practice solving hard q's.
-good luck!

kyledavid, excuse my ignorance but hasn't the uc system banned race as a factor in admissions. if so, wouldn't it be too early to make ucla a match without sats or psat scores.

My PSAT score was 180. I did fine on CR and Writing. The math score made my score plummet. I have the Princeton Review book. Would practicing its tests help me or would I need more practice? (it has 4 practice tests)

no i wasnt assuming. but she explicitly stated that her psat scores were bad(which they arent at all). I just didn't see a reason besides race for you to make UCLA, a very competitive university, a match at this point.

I don't see how UCLA is a match at all if she's taking classes such as Algebra II at Junior level. A high GPA would be considerably easier to achieve with classes like that.

your a junior and your in algebra two? maybe that's why you did bad in math. have you taken geometry yet? your gpa is great though and its good you speak two langauges fluently. you have a shot at all! just raise that sat

I took Algebra freshman year, Geometry Sophmore year and Algebra II/Trig. this year.
My school is wierd so students usually only go to Pre-Calculus (it's a private Catholic school and its courses are wierd)

Rigor is in the eye of the beholder. Make sure you do well in your SAT/ACT. Math is the most "prepable" one. Otherwise your GPA starts to look suspect. Your ECs look good. Remember that your real competition for the most selective schools will be other Latinas with similar or better stats. Good luck.
