Chance a legacy please!

Hello, I am applying RD as a legacy next year. What are my chances.

I have a 94/95 UW GPA, 2170 SAT. 7 AP's by end of HS.

EC's are strong and include two varsity sports, captain of debate team/other clubs, black belt.

Research experience at two major medical schools, publishing a paper and doing statistics for large department wide project-my major interest-nueroscience. Lots of work with children with special needs.

Am proficient in English, Spanish, Japanese, Hebrew. Tutor in Spanish.

Will apply for Biological Basis of Behavior Program.

legacy has a much slimmer weight, or almost no weight, on admission during the RD round. However, if you apply ED, legacy has A LOT of weight.

I think some more information would be useful. For instance, what state are you from? If you’re from, say, South Dakota or another similarly under-represented state, I’d say you’re almost certainly in. But if you live in California, Texas, or New York, your chances of acceptance obviously decrease.

No-I am in New York.

If you can, try to bring up your SAT a little. Also, make sure to do well on your SAT II’s, because they can make up for a lower SAT score.

I think you are definitely qualified to get in, but if you apply ED the legacy will really help and increase your chance by a lot. That’s what I did, and it’s also really wonderful not to be panicking about acceptances/rejection now.

sorry but RD. What if I get a 33/34 on the ACT? I haven’t taken it yet.

I’d say 35 ACT and you’ll stand a high chance

I say apply, don’t stress too much about your scores. 5 hours on a saturday morning isn’t going to matter as much as you think. You broke 2100, the next thing would be 2250. If you think you can do it, go for it! But if all those hours of prep aren’t going to produce the desired result, I’d stare at my 2170 and smile. :D

i dont think you have much of a chance tbh

Your EC’s should make you good candidate RD, make sure you emphasize them and tie them to why Penn is a good match for you in your essays. Improving SAT to over 2250 or getting 34+ on ACT would help, but would probably not be decisive.

Unfortunately, there are lots of good candidates RD and legacy doesn’t count for much if anything in RD (see [Penn Alumni Admissions Resource Center](http://www.alumni.upenn.edu/aca/) ) so your odds are probably around 20%. However, in ED with legacy your odds would probably by more like 60%. Something to consider.

You should apply ED or you risk getting hosed. More smart Californians are applying out of state. Also, with ED coming back next year at Harvard and Princeton, it might make Penn ED a little easier than it has been these past few years.

I also am a legacy what are my chances
32 ACT
class rank 4/300
want engineering
Varsity Ice Hockey and Soccer
FBLA officer
FRench club officer
peer mentoring officer
middle school mentoring
science league
NHS
chem sat 2 750
math sat 2 750

UPDATE: retook SAT.

Got a 2300-800 CR, 800 W, 700 M

Will this help my chances a bit?

I’d say your chances are pretty good if you apply ED. Keep up the good work.

Thanks, I guess I might as well apply.

why wouldn’t you consider applying ED when clearly your chances would be much improved?

If she’s not sure she wants to go to Penn, then she shouldn’t apply ED.

You have time to decide before your ED application is due. In my opinion, make a decision by then (3 more months will not give you any more clarity and you will only be in a similar bind with your regular decision schools). Your best shot at penn in general and particularly as a legacy is to apply early. If you don’t your chances decrease dramatically. just my opinion.

I’m aware. Its just that I have other schools that I also really like, and may want to apply ED to one of them. I don’t know if I want to commit myself to Penn potentially.

I have changed my mind and will most likely apply ED to Penn next year.
