AP Spanish
I am taking an art history course at a CC this summer that I'm told will count like an AP Art History course. I'm expecting a B+ or A- in this course.

ESSAY: Finished my main Common App and USC personal statement, and I think it's really excellent and makes me stand out. I have a personal tutor working with me on it.

RECOMMENDATION:
From my newspaper advisor who will probably write a spectacular rec letter. My APUSH teacher is providing my second rec. It's not going to be as great as my advisor's but he likes me and I performed well in his class so it'll probably be good.

USC is a pretty good match and Syracuse. Not sure about the others, seems likely.
good luck.

question: How did you prepare for the SAT I’s? What did you do different the 2nd time around?

I am literally obsessed with USC. If I don’t get in, I’ll be devastated. Hope you’re right.

I tutored with a local prep company called Revolution. My parents hired a private tutor who came to my house for two hours every weekend. I suck badly at math, so I didn’t do so hot both times even though I spent at least 5 months preparing. Revolution’s methodology is for students to take mock SATs as often as possible, so I think my higher score the second time around was simply due to the additional amount of times I had taken the test. The more, the better. Plus my tutor was great.

well I know an African-American guy that got into USC with a 1700 SAT last year… so he said. I’m not too sure what his GPA was.

I also know a biracial girl (mostly likely put African-American on her app) that attends USC and got a 1880 on her SAT. She was also the school’s salutatorian.

Im not saying you are a shoe-in but I think you have a really good chance. Plus, from what I’ve heard, USC boasts the fact that they admit the most under-represented minorities…

Thanks for that, kamilah. Like I said, I hope you’re correct. USC also likes high SAT writing section scores so I hope that will help me (saw this specifically noted in an article).

Bump!

10char

USC is pretty EASY to get in. Don’t worry. You’re fine.

Why do you say that, asian75? Also, it’s a little bit degrading to say that about a school that’s considered one of the best in the country… especially in communication.

USC is not that competitive to get in. About UCSD, UCLA level of competitivness. They probably won’t look for stellar applicants like HYPSM

I get that it’s not HYPS. But it’s competitive for the average person. Most sites list it as “most selective.” But… anyway, thanks for your feedback.

I think USC is selective at best. It’s harder to get into UCSD, UCLA and UCB than USC.

True. Except for UCSD. You sure?

Anyway, do you think I have a shot at UCLA and UCB?

I think you have a shot. URM status. Your stat is in the average range of those schools

UCLA and UCB don’t practice affirmative action.

URM status will not get you in a UC, unless perhaps you have overcome obstacles like being first gen. My D’s stats where average for a UCLA admit, and she did not get in.

Oh I thought they do. Your chance are medium to slim then. You should apply to some CSU schools as safety schools.

@ Skrinkrap: what was your D’s stat?

I’ll just say SAT more than 2000, UC GPA more than 4. Good EC’s (not College Con good, but very good in our local context). I think her problem was few AP’s (her school didn’t offer many) and low SAT II’s (I think for similar reasons).

That’s not bad. I thought UCLA has lower average than that.
