I definitely should have tried harder throughout high school. Would a good essay help me out a lot? I'm confident that I can write a solid one.

I'm Guyanese, which is sort of Indian, but not really.

Will my in-state status help me out with the SUNY schools?

SUNY Stony Brook says that they don't care if you're in or out-of-state, so I don't know about the others. I think you could get into at least one of those SUNY's, especially if you write a good, self-reflective essay. Have you exhibited an upward trend with grades or course rigor at all? Good luck.

I would say no on Binghamton. I am also in-state and I know people with better credentials who got rejected from Binghamton. That in addition to '09 being the biggest applicant class and the economy being in the can (means more state apps), and Binghamton just being the best all-around SUNY. Though, if you can write a great essay, I would sa your chances would greatly increase.

Your SATs are good for Albany but that 2.9 GPA is the only thing that stands in your way. Nonetheless, I will say you have a very good shot. Good luck.
