I’m gonna try to be as honest as I can since Yale is my dream school, too, and I know what we’re going through.
I think your GPA is fine for Yale, but the ACT is a little low 'cause the average is : 25% 32, and 75% 35, so, although you could get in anyway, is pretty unsafe. Why don’t you try the SAT? In this case you’d need a 2200+. Are you planning to take SAT subjects? I know they’re not required along with the ACT but they can definitely help you 'cause the majority of applicants will have them and with high scores. Your hooks and volunteer activity will help you a lot, but your ECs are pretty common in my opinion, so be sure to send them this art supplement and to have a great recommendation by your band instructor to stand out. Try also to hold that leadership position you were talking about and, of course, write your essays as passionate as you can be 'cause that will be what is going to make you stand out.
Sorry for this, but you seem an average candidate so you need to find out something that make you stand out, as higher scores or real passion in your essays. Though, I think you can definitely try to apply and see since it is your dream school! Just make sure you have more affordable schools you’d like to attend, just in case. Yale is a high reach for everyone.
Good luck! :)

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1370677-please-chance-me-ivies-i-promise-ill-chance-anyone-back.html</a></p>

considering that like ~30,000 people apply every year and like ~2,000 get in every year;

I say high reach(like all of us), and try to take SAT and Subject tests

I’m planning on taking 3 subject tests (Spanish, Chemistry, Math II) in october (I think that’s when they are but if not, they’re probably in september). Thanks!

The sad thing is, you will probably get in, but not on your own merit.

Not on his/her own merit? OP is in the top 5% of his/her class, has a 30+ ACT, and has extensive EC’s…

You act as if he/she has nothing good about their application…

FYI, if Spanish is your first language, they will not be overly impressed by a high SATII Spanish score.

Sadly spanish isn’t my first language. My parents thought that If i learned english initially it would be easier for me to integrate into american society so they held off on spanish for a bit. I didn’t start learning Spanish until middle school and am taking spanish in highschool not for the easy A which many think, but to learn the more proper and formal spanish which my family and I hadn’t learned.

I have been self-teaching italian for a few months. I could possibly learn more extensively so I can take the Italian SAT 2 in October/September but I’m not sure If I want to risk receiving a low score that will be required to be sent since Yale wants all score reports.

OP has a strong resume, but it is not yale level.

What you have to understand is that admissions are so random at that level. If you are qualified for Yale, but don’t have any “hooks”, it is essentially a lottery. That being said, you are a very qualified applicant. Yale is a possibility, but not a definite (its very rarely definite for anyone).

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1371747-chance-me-what-tier-college-should-i-looking.html</a></p>

I help you with Italian and you help me with English and the SAT… deal? I’m an Italian native speaker

yeah that’d be awesome!!!

What do you really expect anyone to say? Your chances are okay; yes, being a URM helps, but your ACT isn’t amazing and neither are your grades. They’re very, very good, don’t get me wrong, but they’re below average for Yale (which you already know). The band stuff is good, but you don’t have any other leadership positions? Or did you just not list them? Hopefully you don’t have your heart set on going there because that’s a pretty risky dream to have for anyone. Also, you didn’t say what state you live in? I hope it’s not California.

“The sad thing is, you will probably get in, but not on your own merit.”

LOL, what? His getting in would not be a sad thing, and there is no one who gets into Yale that is undeserving. There are just many, many people who are deserving and do not get in.

However, there is good news. There are dozens of other schools where you will receive just as good of an education as you would if you did attend Yale.

Well the Conflict Resolution Team itself is composed of leaders nominated by teachers and Student Ambassadors is also generally the same idea. I will also be running for a leadership position in NHS so hopefully I can add that also. I will also be running varsity and will hopefully be going to state this year (same for music and math team). For Shenanigans I will be leading the Improv Club and will be teaching them the basics of improvisational acting. Oh and I live in Illinois.

Why do you have to add your race into the title…?

haha hell if I know! I guess I was hoping that some sort of exclamatory sentence would make more people see this thread and chance me.

So you don’t know, but still think you stand even the slightest chance at Yale? please.

@devrybound Well clearly you didn’t read my explanation. I only used that title to grab people’s attention which worked but apparently some people didn’t respond to it the way I had hoped. Insulting me is not what was supposed to happen and I honestly have no idea why you thought it was necessary. If you had a legitimate problem with my title then I apologize but I truly believe you didn’t and instead fished for reasons to put me down. Chill out dude and If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all.

If you hadn’t included it in your post, that would be a different argument, but you did and I apologize.
