CHANCE A MINTORITY =p

Yeah I’m almost sure that Duke expects no contribution for families making under $60,000 so there must’ve been a discrepancy with your friend’s financial aid application or maybe she had some unusual circumstances…

Shrinkrap,

The reason I used the words “flat out wrong” is because frankly, the poster is wrong. I don’t mean to offend the poster, but I do look to stop rumors and false information from spreading. Duke has a profile form and looks at the FAFSA and there is a little bit of guesswork involved, but when it comes to families making <$60K they make it very clear, no parental contribution. There is no formula, it is a simple cut off. This cut off is published, so unless your family owns homes worth millions of dollars, or has a trust fund with millions of dollars there is no way that you would not receive financial aid making less than <$60K.

If you make less than that you should be able to go to Duke for free and I think that is what happens.

I think they pay for tuition but room and board are still your responsibility, but don’t quote me on that hahaa.

Financial aid covers tuition, room, board, all fees, basically the entire cost of Duke, they will even include summer school, a semester abroad, or duke engage.

The total cost of attending duke is just over $53,400 and financial aid will cover all.

OMG! That’s so amazing, that just made my day. I seriously thought FA only covered tuition, that’s beyond great. Ahhhh ! =D

atl_living, i think u r a bit too harsh
if i can politely tell you to calm down w/o you attacking someone, that would be nice.
i m just telling u what she told the whole school. i m no official representing duke, and as far as i can tell, neither r u (and if u r, why would u waste time on this stuff). so if u could just step back and relax…

2468,

I wasn’t attacking you I was just stating that you are wrong and giving you some additional information as to why you are incorrect. I provided you with additional details that you can also get from Duke’s website.

If she told the entire school this then that is strange (especially giving family income to a whole student body), but I wouldn’t base your judgment of a school’s financial aid on one conversation. There are strict rules on how Duke grants financial aid, and her family making under $50k would clearly fall under the rules.

atl_living

you are acting like you know this girl more than me…
and don’t have so much hope on schools. schools give a generalization of what kind of financial aid they are giving.
-maybe she has a special situation (I did not say she did or didn’t)

and if i am basing on one conversation that she had with the whole school, you are also wrong for accusing me for just one comment on this site
