<p>Okay so, I’m a senior in high school, African-American, and I’m hoping to major in psychology in college. My ultimate goal is to be a psychiatrist. I know that i’m going to have to take the appropriate courses to get into Medical School but I still want to major in psychology.</p>

<p>P.S.- Does Amherst offer merit scholarships(I’m just curious)?</p>

<p>Can you retake anything? Like the ACT on saturday-if you can raise your score to a 31, it improves your chances a lot.
No merit, just need-based
Are you poor or 1st generation? Then you are extremely likely to be accepted. The “race card” alone will help, because you are URM.

<p>Wtith very decent essays, I think you have a good shot. Last year, our Valedictorian was also a National Achievement Semi-Finalist and an AP Scholar. She now goes to Yale. :slight_smile: Being a URM totally helps! :)</p>

<p>Therefore, you should devote your time and energy to writing compelling essays from which you will emerge as a real person–hopefully an interesting one.</p>
