Okay so, I'm a senior in high school, African-American, and I'm hoping to major in psychology in college. My ultimate goal is to be a psychiatrist. I know that i'm going to have to take the appropriate courses to get into Medical School but I still want to major in psychology.

P.S.- Does Vanderbilt offer merit scholarships(I'm just curious)?

i dont know about you chances of acceptance, but I would say Vandy is a mid reach. This is due to your low SAT scores, which are in Vandy’s 25-50 percentile. Although, on the plus side, Vandy is really into diversity, so being African America is helpful

As for merit scholarships, the deadline for merit applications has already past

Oh, so they do offer merit scholarships. Interesting. Well I was only asking out of curiosity. Really I only care about merit scholarships for schools that I’m overqualified to get into. For my reach schools (like Vanderbilt, Princeton, and Boston College) I know that a lot of Ivy League and higher level schools are need blind so if I get accepted I believe the costs will be taken care of as I am on the lower side economically and I have begun to fill out the financial aid forms. So I believe everything will go fine

Only the Ingram deadline has passed. Chancellor’s, Cornelius Vanderbilt, and the smaller scholarships are all due on January 3

I am also a National-Achievement Semi-Finalist ! congrats! based on you stats, you should be able to get in as long as your essay and letters of rec were good. Good luck!
