Chance a nervous senior at Cornell Ed please

This will be kind of a quick post cause I'm rushing sorry

SAT- 660cr and 630m (Don't look at w)
SAT II- 750us and 600chem ( I had a bad day and will probably put that in additional info)
91% average will probably go up after quarter ends tomorrow hopefully to a 92.
took 4 out of 5 APs offered. Got a 4 and 5 and am taking two this year.
Hardest course load at school
Great EC but don't feel like putting them took me forever last time.
Hook-African American, First-Gen college student
Do you think I have a shot???

Thanks in advance sorry for the quick post but its All Hallow's Eve and I'm going out soon.

I may seem rude at points, but I would rather that you see me as a jerk than for you to get denied to a school.
-SAT is OK, definitely not good but may slightly give you a disadvantage.
-SATII does not help. If you had a higher SAT your excuse may have some credibility, but you don’t. I highly recommend that you do not write that you had a bad day; it is a pathetic excuse that won’t help. Admissions won’t think, “Oh, he had a bad day, so we’ll ignore these scores or pretend they are 50 points higher.” Unless if you have a significant reason why you were having a bad day, you will just come off of making an excuse
Just a quick thing to add on. I don’t understand why people say having a bad day hurts your test scores drastically. If I know the information, I become relaxed and do the test. I don’t buy the excuse and neither will admissions.

-3.64 GPA on a 4.0 scale if it translates perfectly… and if that is unweighted. If you are anything below a 3.8, you will be at a great disadvantage as Cornell has many qualified candidates to pick from

-I don’t see any ECs and people claim their ECs are good, but in reality they are not.

Conclusion: Yes, you have a shot, but it is honestly minuscule. If you weren’t african american, I would say you have no shot. I would guess your GPA doesn’t place you in the top 10%, which kills chances for any top tier college. Be patient and wait for a decision, but be prepared to apply to more schools. I would guess 85% that you will be denied, 5% waitlisted, 10% accepted.

Good luck.

The problem is that everything I see is less than average for Cornell.

My gpa puts me at ranked 10 in my grade out of 67 I believe

And I talked to an Assistant Dean at Cornell and he is the one that told me to put that in my additional information. And I’m very confused because my friend got into Cornell with a 650cr and a 620m so I have better sats but he had a better gpa 93%. But the quarter is ending tomorrow and my gpa may go up to a 92% so the gpa gap will be even lower. And I made a chance with all my ec so I could it if you want to see them.

As you can see, 74% of applicants are in the top 10% of their class. You are at the top 15%, which puts you at a significant disadvantage, especially when they end up accepting less than 20% from this pool.

18% of applicants apply at around your high school rank, but they only make up 5% of the class, meaning that cuts your chances down by a third.

Your SAT math score is in the bottom 25% OF THE APPLICATION POOL, not even those who were accepted. If you were to be accepted, you would be in the bottom 10% of math scores.

Your SAT CR score puts you at the average OF THE APPLICATION POOL, but if you were to be admitted you’d be at the lower 40% CR of the incoming class

The more I look into this data, the more grim it looks.

At my school over the years 1 or 2 people a year got in with my statistics so this is kind of surprising to me.

Can you give us an idea of your ECs? Look at my chance thread if you need help making them generalish; I think I did a good job.

I’m leaving my house in 5mins so I’ll just post it on this page to update it. Oh and quick question I know you can put 10 on common app, but I have a lot more on naviance so could I put that in additional information or is that too much?

Ok plans fell through so I’ll just do it right now.

And thats about everything

You can apply to Cornell but I can’t see an acceptance happening. I actually like your ECs! Here is a tip I give to people who need focus, but you don’t really… but it may still be helpful:

"You need focus. What do I mean by focus? Focus is something that much of your ECs revolved around, and something that you were successful at. Most importantly however, focus is what college admissions think you will bring to the college. Now your focus doesn’t have to be unique; mine is mathematics research and engineering. Of course I backed this up (Siemens comp participant, submitted paper to journal, presentation at a conference at a college, tutor in engineering teams at elementary schools (engineering tutor of the state 2x), and competing at an international college engineering competition.

Of course yours doesn’t need to be this extensive, but you need to tell colleges why they want you to come to the school. Once you find your focus, write your R
