^^^^^I have letters of verification/recommendations from all these places, and will send it in with my application.

Please be honest..................

THOUSANDS OF KIDS WITH BETTER EC'S, BETTER CLASS RANKS, BETTER SAT SCORES WILL BE APPLYING..........What are my chances?

Applying RD of course...............

Bump............Chances Please...........

I wouldn't send in five supplemental letters of rec/verification... most schools say that will hurt your chances. Two max (or one max, in Stanford's case) is usually the limit.

You have decent chances. SAT/grades are mediocre for Columbia, and you don't have a huge hook.... but neither do half the people that apply. Just write a great essay and I think you definitely have a good chance of getting in :)

^^^^^^^^Thanks for the insight into Columbia's application process........

Do you know if my dad working for columbia as a senior computer administrator for 4 years helps my application????? He doesn't work there anymore because we moved to Texas, but does it help at all?????

My cousin graduated from Columbia's Law School, would that help at all?.............She graduated this past year...................

Any other thoughts?............

I'd say you have a good chance at Columbia, especially with your dad being a former employee. Chance me back as well if you get a chance?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/601606-what-my-chances-good-college-2.html is the link

Columbia profs have a hard time getting their own kids in, a former employee will not help.

You need to look at the common data set. You'll see that less than 10% were not in the top 10% of their high school class. You will also see that your SAT score is slightly below median and you don't give us SATIIs. This makes Columbia an uphill battle for you but anything is possible if they love your ECs, essay and recs.

^^^^^^Can you send me a link to those stats...........That would help a lot..........

I think Columbia's stats on the college board are outdated, because they say that the average sat score is 1435 for reading and math, and only 2140 overalll.............(I think that competition has increased in the past year or two, so the average may be higher, so I don't know)

Does anyone know how much emphasis columbia places on the writing score..........I only got a 700 on that section................I know Dartmouth places the majority of its emphasis on the reading and math section................

Sat Subject Tests
Math 1- 730
U.S. History-750

Bump..............

Common Data Set Initiative

^^^^^^Thanks.............Helps a lot...............

Regardless, I think you've got a good chance at Columbia. Take the SAT II's to help you out. Your biggest problem (imo) is a lack of a "college hook," or something that stands out a lot. Your karate is working for it right now, but if you could strengthen that somehow your chances would be muuuch better. still, good - very good chances. Good Luck!

Please look at mine (no link, but tis called IVy Leagues Chance

nooooo why did your dad quit?! lol

^^^^^^If only he still worked there..............

*****The Youth Club thing is interesting.............I belonged to some international organization and I have to set up local presentations telling teenagers my age not to do drugs and stay away from the negative infulences in a teenagers life. The Youth Club also has me setting up local functions, I have to set them up, execute them, and make sure the functions are properly closed. I have also helped create carnivals for certain benefits..........

( I am worried that I applied to Rice Ed, and that on my resume I was vague about my role in the Youth Club, all I said was 2005-2009--Youth Club, nothing else)..........I will send in a letter that the Youth Club has made for me, better explaining my role in the organization on Nov. 24, and Rice starts mailing out the acceptance results on dec. 15)........Damn......You think Rice will still consider my letter or is it too late

^^^^^^bump...................

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ bump...................

Bump...............................

Bump, whats making me worry is that Columbia has over 20,000 applicants, all with similar stats, the chance that even look at my application with even a little interest is remote......

My class rank is a big problem too, my gpa is 93.4 (weighted) and a 3.8 (unweighted) and I am only in the top 20 percent.............schools should look more at test scores because they are the same for everyone.......If I had gone to a less compeitive school, I could have been in top 10 percent.....
