Here's the big one:

I founded a startup company along with a few of my friends. The startup generates real revenue and does real business. This is the explanation for my drastic grade drop in sophomore year. I was so focused on the startup that I let everything else fall by the wayside. This means friendships, experiences, and having a good time, and of course, my grades. On top of that, I hated half of my classes. I was extremely uninterested in the topics so I never really did well. Junior year I completely changed. I choose classes I actually liked and was able to manage my time much better resulting in a good GPA.

Hopefully this unique situation helps me a little

Please chance me for the following schools, I want to major in Business

University of Michigan, Cornell, NYU, Northwestern, Chicago, UCLA, University of Toronto

Thank you

UMI Ross: High match
Cornell: Reach
NYU Stern: High match
NWU: Reach
U Chicago: Reach (write stellar essays and it becomes reachable)
UCLA: Reach (even paying full-freight won’t do much for you, if OOS)
U Toronto Rotman: Match/high match

What’s your safety? Even Rotman isn’t a safety…

What exactly does high match mean? it means that I’ll likely get in, correct?

Are you sure about Michigan? I know some people last year who had 3.7’s and 32 ACTs with average EC’s and they got rejected. Does the startup experience help me that much or is it just like any other leadership EC? My safety is MSU, I didn’t put it on the list because I’m pretty sure I’ll get in. Thank you for all the help!

UM - High Match / Low reach, Michigan values GPA a lot and even with an above average SAT score there, it’s gonna be a toss up with your GPA
Cornell - Low Reach/Reach, Good ECs might boost you over the top though
NYU - Match/High Match
NWU - Low Reach
UChicago - Low Reach/Reach
UCLA - Low Reach

Chance back?

I agree with what the others say. A high match means you have an okay chance of getting in. In terms of least likely to most likely here are the terms used on CC and most college sites.
Unrealistic
High Reach
Reach
Low Reach/High Match
Match
Low Match
Safety

Just a friendly suggestion–
Putting that 10 hours in a nursing home on your application may look a little strange.
Some students do that in a span of 2 weeks.

here’s a tailored response for Cornell:

if you’re going into business, you’re probably applying to CALS and AEM (applied economics and management). That means several things. First off, your SAT IIs don’t count for much because CALS does not require them (which means they hardly glance at them). Your SAT and ACT are about average or a little higher. If you want the precise details about the numbers, follow this link to see the precise details about dyson’s latest acceptance rates

http://dyson.cornell.edu/docs/aem_info_sheet.pdf</a>

Your ECs give you the best advantage. I hope they will be the subject of your essaies. Starting your own business and club both show leadership and interest in business. Work that as much as you can.

Your grades and GPA are not to your advantage. However, if you mention your extra work and passion for your business (and NOT how you were bored with your classes!) then i think that could be overlooked.

overall, your chances are decent for dyson in my opinion. The acceptance rate is only 10%, and only going to get more competitive as Cornell continues to climb business rankings.

any specific questions for me? I got accepted into dyson myself, and have spoken with grads, current students, admissions staff, and professors (I live near the school and know people) so I can give you about as much information as undergrad applicants can know when they apply

good luck!

It’s really hard to get into Ross as a pre-admit, so if you’re doing UM, apply to LSA and apply to Ross during sophomore year.

Anyway, I had similar stats to you and was recently deferred, although you seem to have better extracurriculars so you never know. I’d say a high match

I think you’ll for sure get into NYU. May I ask what business you started up? Thats pretty awesome haha.Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1431373-chance-top-schools.html</a></p>
