chance a prospective junior?

so, columbia is pretty high up on my list. here's some basic stats:

questions:
1. will taking the SAT a third time be seen poorly? will little improvement between two attempts be seen poorly as well?
2. how do very strong art supplements play into columbia admissions?

statistics:
SAT: mid 2200's on both sittings (is this going to be seen as really bad?)
ACT: 35
GPA: 3.82 unweighted; 4.5/4.6 weighted (***i moved in the middle of high school from an easy school to a really tough one, and had a drop in grades due to adjustment issues. i'm back at a 4.0 uw now this year)
SAT II: 800 math2, 800 ush, 800 physics, 790 bio-e, 750 lit
APs: 5's on: ab/bc calculus, us history, physics b, english language/comp

extra-curriculars:
art 9,10,11,12 (6 years of private instruction; x2 international awards; x2 publications in nationally-circulating magazines; x3 professional gallery installments; member of city's artists' guild; very strong portfolio supplement)
varsity swimming 9, 10, 11, 12 (co-captain; x8 state qualifier; x3 school's scholar-athlete winner)
science research 11, 12 (research assistant; internship; 500+ hours)
culture club 10, 11, 12 (president)
international charity club 11, 12 (president)
another culture-ish type club 10, 11, 12 (leadership team)
volunteering/school service 9, 10, 11, 12 (tutor; school committees)

summer activities:
'08: research & lots of art
'09: two internships & lots of art

assume essays are extraordinary
recs: very strong, but not best student ever, probably top 5%
supplements: one-of-the-best art teacher rec, and art portfolio is amazing.

about me:
ORM, male
school type: first i went to a large competitive public. now at a small competitive private.

I think you have an excellent shot at Columbia.

Write good essays and get great recommendations!! :)

While your SAT I is average, you ACT is very high. And your subject test scores are high too. So you definitely do not need to retake any standardized tests.

Your stats overall seem very strong, but make sure to narrow down a few activities that you absolutely love and put them on your application. The adcoms want to see passion and focus, not a laundry list of activities.

Other than that, your chances of acceptance are pretty good.

P.S. Why would you assume your essays are extraordinary? Many applicants like you will write good essays. It really takes extraordinary skill to be noticed and stand out. That’s why a lot of people spend hours trying to polish there essays to be really unique.

Good Luck!

I disagree. Write everything you can down on your app.

I think it really depends on what you’ve done. If they are all amazing, then put them all down. But if the adcom whiffs out that some of the ECs are not spectacular and are there to fill space, then you’re toast.

bump!
I just wanted a few more opinions as I’m looking closer at columbia. will my arts supplement (assuming it’s very strong and reviewed by the art dept) be a big boost? what’s the (fine) arts scene at columbia and nyc like?

bump?! anyone have any thoughts?
