Chance a repentant slacker, please? UMich NYU and Wisconsin-Madison

Sorry to clutter up the board with another chance thread, but I am growing anxious about my prospects. Since my high school grades are fast becoming irrelevant, I thought it would be a good idea to reapply for a few of the top 40. I am deeply disappointed with my current school, a four year, commuter-based university located in suburban Detroit. It has always been my dream to attend the University of Michigan, but I managed to abandon that path rather quickly due to chronic apathy. I would really appreciate any feedback you would be willing to give, although the three applications have already been mailed. For the record, I am applying for Junior status with an expected 42 credits.

College:
GPA: disastrous first semester (3.35) , all A's in the semesters that followed. Cumulative 3.65.
Major: English, with plentiful coursework in Political Science and Spanish. Received a C in the requisite Biology class, but did wonderfully in a summer Calculus course
Goals: Emphasized a desire to attend law school in my personal essays
Honors: Member of the Honors College, with relevant coursework
EC: A few extracurricular activities, but only one is affiliated with the school: two volunteer jobs (for a total six hours weekly) and the local RHA

High School:
Cumulative 3.25: 2.5 freshman year, ~3.7 senior year
AP: 4 in both English exams, 3 in European History
SAT: None
ACT: 30, no retakes (which I am beginning to regret)

Thanks :).

I am sure you will be able to get into UMich and Wisconsin-Madison but I am unsure about NYU, I heard that getting in there as a transfer is tough.

chance me!

Hahah, that’s quite reassuring. Still, I’m a little worried about Umich due to some of the other posts I’ve read. A lot of people here seem convinced that only 3.8 or above will do, so there’s always that little fear. It might help that I have a brother who graduated from there a few years ago (they specifically made note of that in my '08 rejection letter). What would you say is preventing me from getting into NYU?

Regrettable bump.

Most successful NYU CAS transfer applicants have above a 3.5+, which you have. I think you have a good shot! NYU does not emphasize high school if you are applying as a junior.

I got accepted to Michigan with a 3.42, give it a shot

3.65 GPA and 30 ACT are definitely good enough for UMich and for UWisc. You will probably get into both.
