<p>Hey guys, Im Nicole, and Im going to be a senior this coming year (Wow, it feels so weird to say that! High school has gone by SO fast). I've been using the ample resources on collegeconfidential for a while, now, and I've decided it's time to post! </p>
<p>So, Im planning to apply to: Duke, Yale, University of Virginia, University of Maryland, University of Delaware, University of Pittsburgh, Boston University, and UMass Amherst. Im a white, upper-middle class female from Rhode Island. </p>
<p>Here are my stats:</p>
<p>High school: large, super competitive public (one of the best in the state)
GPA: 4.76 W, 3.99 UW
ACT: 33 (34 M, 34 E, 32 S, 32 R, 11 essay)
SAT: 2080 (660 CR, 690 M, 730 W, 10 essay) should I even send this? I doubt Ill have time to retake it, even though Id like to, because of subject tests.
I was scheduled to take subject tests on the June test date, but I got mono and couldnt make it. Ill take them in September.
Class rank: 16/269 (top 6%) as of mid-year. This will go up; I did really well this semester. Im optimistic for top 5%.</p>

<p>Freshman (this was at a Catholic school): Honors Anatomy and Physiology, Italian 1, Honors Western Civilizations, Gym/Health, Art 1, Religion 9, Honors English 9, Honors Geometry </p>
<p>*note - although some of my freshman year classes were weighted at my Catholic school, when I transferred, my public school would not weight them. I guess they dont offer Honors Western Civ or Honors Anatomy so they wouldnt give me honors credit, even though they were honors level classes. This brings my cumulative GPA and class rank down because the other students at my public school took easier classes, but we receive the same weight.</p>
<p>Sophomore (transferred to public): Biology A, Earth Systems A (I had to take their freshman science), Honors Italian 2, Honors Global Studies, Gym/health/SK102, Honors English 10, Honors Algebra 2</p>
<p>Junior: Honors Chem, Honors Italian 3, AP US History, Gym/health/SK103, AP English Language & Composition/Honors Humanities, Photography, Culinary, Honors Precalc</p>
<p>Senior (scheduled): Honors Physics, Honors Biotechnology, AP Biology, Honors International Relations, gym/health/sk104, Film Analysis, Poetry and Short Story, AP Calculus BC</p>
<p>*note Film analysis and poetry and short story together make up my English credit. I tried to take URI Writing 104 instead of film analysis, but due to scheduling conflicts with AP Calculus, film analysis was the only English class I could take. Also had to drop Italian (I was trying to take AP Italian 4) because it was at the same time as Honors Physics.</p>

Essay: really solid so far, about life experience relating to womens rights/stereotypes/how I want to go into engineering. The book I got from the Smith book award inspired me, so I started writing. Clearly it's way early and I'm sure I'll go through a million more drafts and may change my topic, who knows.
Recs:
Teachers solid and personal. The teachers I've asked know me really well on an academic level as well as on a personal level.
Counselor My counselor really likes me and knows me well. </p>
<p>Like I said, I'm planning on applying to Duke, Yale, University of Virginia, University of Maryland, University of Delaware, University of Pittsburgh, Boston University, and UMass Amherst. I'd appreciate any input! </p>
<p>PS. University of Virginia and University of Maryland are my top choices, after visiting. I know UVA is hard for OOS but I figure it's worth a shot. Also, I know Duke and Yale are super reaches, but applying can't hurt, and I can't get in if I don't apply!</p>
