Chance a Rising Junior! :D

Hey guys, I'm a Canadian student about to enter junior year, and I was hoping to see how my chances are so far.

I'd really appreciate it if any of you have any advice on things I can do this year that might help my chances, as well :D.

Anyways, without further ado, let's get to it!

Schools I'm thinking of: Harvard, Yale, Columbia, McGill

GPA: 95/100 (school doesn't go by the 4.0 scale)
Rank: school doesn't report ranks to universities apparently...
SAT: Haven't taken yet
Senior course load: Will all be APs except for mandatory spares and planning blocks..

I'm very interested in visual arts, and have won awards on both regional and national levels. However, I don't want to be an artist as a future profession, and I'm probably going to major in something humanities related instead.

ECs:

participate in art fundraisers and sell art for charities

played in my school orchestra's first violin section, but am changing to first horn (we got a gold medal at Kiwanis 2012 and am advancing to Nationals)

Co-captain of my school's yearbook club (Junior year onwards)

Part of track and field team since freshman year, and wins first for discus each year at zones (haha, but not enough to advance to regionals!)

Entered in a national poetry contest and am getting my poem published this coming Jan.

Spearheading an art fundraiser where teens around my city paint artworks that will be auctioned off in Sept. to help raise money for a new water supply in Ecuador (where I did a service trip this spring break to)

member of my city's youth advisory council

regular member of my school's debate and MUN clubs

sings opera for fun lol... I preform from time to time at local venues, but haven't really taken singing seriously until this year. I will be joining my city's choir group this coming Sept. :)

working part-time at a restaurant

loads of internships and volunteer hours at miscellaneous places

Summers: travelling! I love to explore new cultures and languages, and have stayed for extended periods of time in China and France

So what do you think are my chances and how can I improve them?

I'm an Asian, if that makes a difference haha, but I guess I stray a bit from the stereotypes. I'm thinking of majoring in philosophy :]

Anyways, all comments are welcome and thanks for any feedback!

Oh, and also a quick question.

So I don’t really know much about the ACT… do most people take it rather than taking the SAT, or do they take both the ACT and the SAT?

My counsellor said taking the ACT as well as the SAT is preferable, but will this make a big difference?

take both and then figure out which one you are better at. I personally took both two times and I ended up with an ACT score much higher than my SAT score.

I took both of them and did significantly better on the ACT, so I recommend at least trying them both.

Try both the SAT and ACT, it can’t hurt.
Your GPA and rank are good, you also have a decent EC list.
You have a very ambitious list of schools so make sure you score well on the SAT/ACT (practice for them!!) and do your absolute best in junior year, it’s the most important!
Good luck! :D

Thanks for all the advice! I’ll go check out the ACT.

So I guess my EC list is alright but not extraordinary?
Are there any ways I can build on my current interests that will help improve my chances?

Bumppppppp
