** I know my EC's suck, but I'm trying to get them up Junior/Senior year

** School doesn't rank, but I have one of the higher GPA's, top 10%, maybe top 5% (school isn't very competitive, nice school district but not many kids go to Ivies)

** I have not taken any SAT's yet but I did get a 191 on the PSATs, which I know is very low but I did not study for the test at all, and also had never taken any sort of test like it. Since, I have been studying rigorously for the SAT's which I will take next year. MY score will definitely improve from the PSAT- SAT predicted score of 1910.

** I'm not sure what I'd like to major in, both History and Nursing interest me. I'm between like high school history teacher and nurse, random I know haha.

** I am Mexican, not sure if this helps my chances?

** Female, from Pennsylvania

So, assuming all goes well (Straight A's, 5's on all AP Exams, successful EC involvement, raised SAT Score) what are my chances at UNC?

This is just a random list of places I really like. I especially like and have taken interest in Villanova. Could you chance me please and also recommend schools that would be a good fit? And perhaps schools that would give me any sort of scholarship?

Thank you!!

Hey! I got into UNC with a much less impressive transcript academics/test scores wise.

I’m in-state though (about 80% of UNC students are), which really helped me out. Plus I had a lot of EC’s in which I was consistently involved with for all four years. Stick with your varsity sport, church activities, etc. It may help to cut back but get REALLY involved/focus on few.

Essays are really important to Carolina. I didn’t have the greatest SAT scores, but I made sure to point that out and really emphasize my strengths/why UNC was perfect for me. I honestly think that’s what got me in.

In addition, I’m biracial (black/white, haha race cardddd) so that probably helped me, and it will definitely help you too.

I see you’re thinking about nursing…UNC’s great for that! I’m getting ready to apply to the school of nursing here in the fall. It’s an amazing program :)

Good luck! Keep up your grades, EC’s, SAT’s, etc. and you’ll be fineeee. And don’t forget to knock 'em dead with your essays. I would suggest the optional essay to discuss any weaknesses (which doesn’t look like much to me) that they could pick out and explain why they should still accept you. You could also emphasize your strengths. Really make it seem like UNC’s the only school for you (but don’t beg haha)

Happy applying! :)

Your dad is going to trust our opinions? go figure
