Chance a Rising Senior

I need more opinions on this. On the off chance I am accepted to one of the eighteen schools I am applying to, should I go to Penn State where I can graduate with a MS as well as my BS in 4 years and THEN go to a top tier, or should I go to the top tier I am accepted to for undergrad?

Looks really good! I don’t think there’s much I can say that hasn’t been said. Maybe take the ACT just to show you put in the extra effort.

If possible, chance back, please!

It’s a hard decision to make, but personally I would go to Penn State. Graduate in four years with your BS and MS. You’ll save more money and be much further ahead than your peers. Like you said, you’ll be a very competitive candidate for the top tier universities then as well. Will you be going after your doctorate then? Or law school, med school, etc.? Either way I think it would be a great opportunity for you.

Penn State is an excellent school, don’t let the top tier universities deter you.

Personally, I have many careers that I want to go to, but I think I have enough time to decide what I want to do, what with internships and all that. I have been looking into MD/PhD programs in the Social Sciences though. I feel an engineering undergrad degree is very technical and teaches you to think a certain way, which can then be applied to a variety of circumstances. Thanks for helping me out nosleepforme!

Bump…

When another person bumps for you, it means alot. Thanks CentralIFC

Ultimately if you plan on getting a higher level degree, the graduate school matters more. So it seems most prudent to go wherever you can get a good education and finish undergraduate with the smallest sum of loans,

Any volunteer work? And I think you should very seriously consider applying to fewer schools. One reach you know you would be happy going to. And penn state. A great in state tuition. Will probably get great money and some stipends.

Yeah, I have some volunteer work, around 200-300 hrs but people have told me it doesn’t really matter, unless you want to go into social service, which I don’t. I have my volunteer hours from a variety of interesting activities, from educating students across the country about ocean acidification, and its affects aquatic life, as my LE teacher was going to Antarctica, to volunteering for a Professor who found the cure for Leukemia which is pretty sick. I never felt it would be interesting to volunteer in a hospital first of all b/c they don’t do anything, and second of all because I’ve always wnated to be a physician scientist.

Amazing.
Your application is solid.

I’d say the Ivies are a reach, for obvs reasons.
But you’re awesome. Good luck!

Also, can…can I have your grades? LOL

@alexisss Is there a chance that I could get into some of the Ivy’s? My school usually sends 15-20 students to Ivy/Ivy-caliber institutions.

Of course!
Imo, your application is very competitive.

However, even those with nearly perfect applications can be rejected.
If things do not go as wanted, don’t despair! You’re still top-notch and will do extremely well at a non Ivy top tier!

Wow you have incredible academic stats and clearly a talent for leadership. Just make sure you write good essays and it would seem certain that a few of those schools would accept you. Good luck! Please chance back!
