I know it will probably be hard to gain admission seeing how only a few (9%) of attending students have a GPA below 3.0. But will my being Asian help me out somewhat in admission (only 9% attending are Asian)?

Erm… To be honest, I don’t think you can get in. Your grades and scores are just too low, and there doesn’t appear to be anything outstanding on your application. (Although what it your class ranking? If your grades are low, but your ranking is high, then they might not take your gpa too seriously.) Your ethnicity and first-generation status probably won’t do much to buoy your application at all, so don’t count on it as a foundation for your app.

If you can, get your scores and your grades up, and apply as a reach school. But don’t count on getting in, and find some other schools that fit your profile better. Worst case scenario is that you do well at a different college and transfer after freshman or sophomore year. Good luck!

Hi there!

I’m a rising senior at Fordham, and having worked in undergraduate admissions previously, you should know that all aspects of an application factor into an admissions officer’s decision. Therefore, there’s no real way of knowing, based on scores and GPA’s and ethnicity and descriptions of your materials, whether you will be admitted or not. Everything is a factor, and until an admissions officer sits down and reads the whole of your application, nobody can really assess “what your chances are.”

So, I have to say to sunshowers23, I disagree with you! Neither of us can really tell you whether you’ll get in or not because we haven’t read your stuff, and we’re not admissions officers. Put your TRUE self into your application, and just do your best!

Best of luck!

^^^The OP wants to know what his or her chances are to get into Fordham. It is true that nobody here has a crystal ball and the admissions officers who read the OP’s application could certainly see something worthy of admission to Fordham but I have to agree with sunshowers23 that the OP’s CHANCES would certainly seem lower given that he or she does not fit the academic profile. Does that mean that OP will automatically be rejected? Of course not.

If OP really likes Fordham there is no reason not to apply and of course he/she should put together the strongest application possible and one that shows the OP’s “true self” but finding other schools that are a match or safety is equally as important. Additionally, it has been pointed out that the worst case scenario here is doing well at another college and attempting to transfer to Fordham if it doesn’t work out the first time.

Best of luck to the OP!
