Thanks for any help that you might be able to give! ^_^

I don’t usually comment on ‘chances’ threads, but I wanted to point something out to you. In the majority of American schools, IB isn’t given as much weight as (I personally think) it should, Northeastern included.

HL exams are given equal weight to AP exams. They may be considered a little harder, but only if the admissions officer is very familiar with them. When it comes to incoming credits, they are equal. SL exams aren’t given any credit.

So just try not to go into applications thinking IB will be this major thing that sets you apart from everyone else. Most people don’t know what it is, and when they do, only the HL ones matter at all.

I spoke to the admin when I visited. They explained that HL is a bit more important to them. So I guess I understood that. IB is all that was offered to me in HS. :/

Thanks though.

Would anyone like to chance me?
I did a chance last year and people advised me to raise my SAT score to the way it is now, and to also increase my GPA, which I did.

My D has very similar stats to yours, SAT 1820, GPA 3.6. We feel that NEU is a low reach for her, so I would say the same for you academically. Your ec’s are very impressive though so if you have a great essay you probably will have a stronger chance.

Thank you.

I’m surprised that people keep telling me my EC’s are great. I thought they were normal. Now that I know otherwise, I feel better about my app a bit more.

Is your D 3.6 equivalent to my 3.54? I am simply curious.

Her uw is 3.4, w is 3.6. She has no AP classes but took mostly honors. This is why I think NEU is more of a reach for her because of the lack of AP’s. She attends a very rigorous, competitive public high school which is highly ranked in our state though so we are hoping that holds some weight.

oh okay.
Thank you.

Would anyone else like to chance me?
If it’s harsh I can handle it.

I think your chances for Early Action are good, but not great. Your SAT score is really low, so if you can take it again and improve, that might be your best chance. I say you have a good shot, but not guaranteed. I would say 50/50.

That sounds very fair to say.

Thank you for taking the time to chance me.

As I just posted on another thread… last year my D was going through this. We saw the “Freshman Profile” and if I recall the weighted GPA was 3.7-4.0. (pretty sure they only look at weighted, but I could be wrong) or more. The mean SAT was 1950. That must have been for the HS class of 2010 applying and accepted. They talked about this incoming class setting the bar even higher. My D was accepted EA with approx a 4.2 weighted GPA and a 1950 SAT. If you can get that SAT up you will have a much better chance. Also apply EA if possible. Even if you are defered, they know you are motivated. I don’t know anything about IB vs AP. Good luck. My D is very happy there and LOVES Boston!

Thanks for the advice and the info!
