Chance a senior for Georgetown?

I think your ECs are really great and you are obviously very committed. The scores are iffy, but your grades are solid. However, I don’t think that not taking another SAT II is a big deal. I only took two, and my interviewer told me that it would not be a deal breaker. So, I think you have about a 50/50 shot!

Also, Gtown doesn’t requiiire 3 subject tests…it’s just “recommended”. And I think there is a difference.

Thank you so much! I had someone help me type up a letter explaining my situation and verifying that Georgetown is my first choice and I don’t take their high recommendations lightly. I think this will help mitigate the situation with the SAT subject tests.

Basically, what other people say. Your GPA and EC’s are on level, but the SAT Subject tests matter at a school of this caliber. Doesn’t make or break you, but doesn’t help you either. That being said, you could most definitely impress them with your essay.

I think you have a chance. However, I know of a few kids who were very qualified but were deferred, so you never know. Regardless, though, you starting your own business and having it become such a success isn’t a regular “teen job”, so you’re definitely unique.
Good luck!

Honestly you are at a severe disadvantage with your math and subject scores. Plus, georgetown’s polisci program is TERRIBLE, its a common misconception that its good because its in DC, but IR is really where they shine. If you are interested in polisci check out GW or American, but I would shy away from Georgetown with your current stats.

I was just reading through this thread, and I saw someone write that 730 on CR was excellent.

Is it really that impressive to colleges? I thought 730 was a ‘meh’ score… (I’m curious because my CR is EXACTLY 730 as well) Will my 730 CR get me anywhere?

Sorry for that bit of trolling.

@Incorrigible: I read a quote from the Harvard Dean of Admission on the Harvard website that they just like to see people to pass the 700 threshold. So once all of your scores are up in the 700+ range, that’s really at that matters and then you have to start really distinguishing yourself elsewhere. I’d say if you have 730 in CR, and 700s in your other scores as well, it is impressive and you could even stand a chance at the ivies if you have other stuff going for you too.

I read on collegeboard.org that 50% of people admitted to Harvard had a CR score between 690 - 800.

Since Harvard is the number 1 school in the country (according to US news), I would say you should be very proud of your 730 which puts you within that range.

I think you’re a very competitive applicant with your GPA and extracurriculars. The only things I can see holding you back are your SAT scores and SAT II scores. Other than that I think you’re well qualified.

Might also look at Holy Cross.

I thought it would be nice to let you know that when a university says that it is recommended that you have 3 SAT II’s, it means: “If you want a decent shot at being considered you better have three SAT II’s”. Luckily, Georgetown does not look at senior testing for EA, but they do for RD. So, I think you’re capable of taking the SAT in February and sending your SAT II then. It wouldn’t hurt. I would listen to Waverly.
