Bump any other takers? Ill chance back!! =)

Thats good and all, but its a paid service which i have never heard of before so i dont really feel comfortable giving them my info

Sorry I can only give this a cursory glance for now. But one thing I can say is that Columbia, Berkeley, and JHU are not match, and are not even close reach -perhaps except Berkeley? Or it might be the case if you have a stellar letter of rec -and it must be really good- and essays, but it will still be risky.

You have a great GPA and academic rigor. But you lack a lot in the ECs. Yes, you did bits of many activities, but I don’t see a clear focus, nor do I see any leadership or awards. All I can see from what you’ve written is that you were a bit nerdy:)
Better be darn sure to show your personal qualities in your essays to balance that part out.

thats more along the lines of what i was thinking because i dont think JHU, UCB, or Columbia are a match for anyone let alone me. Also, i really did not know what i was going to do in college until very recently, which is why there is a lack of focus in my EC’s

Oh and my Common App essay at the very least is on an extremely personal subject which, i think, shows my personal qualities quite well.

What about if i ED to JHU, will that make it more of a “match” if there is such a thing?

bumps are great, replies are better ;)

Granted I’m not an expert on these schools hence I don’t know much about a lot of them. Your extracurriculars are phenomenal in my opinion (particularly the MMA teaching).
Your GPA and SAT are stellar too.
I’m jelly.

thanks, yeah i have invested pretty much my entire childhood into that and i feel that having a second degree black belt, which requires a minimum of 9 yrs to obtain, shows that i have perseverance and commitment to what i do. I hope that adcomms can appreciate that.

And even though its not in the field of medicine, i think colleges like to see kids show an interest in other things as well to make a more well rounded applicant, which i feel i am (7 yrs of band, 3 yrs tennis, 9 years MMA, clubs and volunteering, and my raw stats)

Please correct me if im wrong and read my previous post explaining why my EC’s are not “focused” towards med.

Okay, I am yet again short of time so I’ll have to be brief. Here are some questions:

Have you taken the AP/SAT II exams? If so, what are your scores?

Any awards/recognition other than those listed above?

What state are you in?

You don’t necessarily need a focus on med. Though the colleges do care, they understand many high school students have barely any clue as to what they want to do in the future.

Not to disparage you, but your band, tennis and clubs/volunteer experiences do not necessarily serve as a big bonus -unless you were a leader or captain. But if you have great SAT II and AP scores, you have a better chance for sure, since your ECs are mostly about MMA…

For tennis i was 1st doubles for JV effectively captain, For band, i was in the wind ensemble (audition only group and best in the sch00l plus our school is top in the state in band) also i was first chair baritone. My school sucks in that i could only take 2 AP classes last yr (no more is possible) and i got a 5 on AP lang comp and 4 on APUSH our school (including me) took the Merck Science day competition and placed well in that too

Great records. WRITE REALLY REALLY GOOD ESSAY, You can get into almost anyone. Some of your schools will you def. get into.

Thanks, ill try my very best ;)

BTW my school does not participate in ANY competitions, national or even state level so i feel this has limited my “awards” in a major way. There is simply nothing that i could do about that fact.

In my opinion you have very good ECs especially the martial arts, and your scores are equally competitive for many of the schools on your list–I would say that for the most part they are either matches or safeties (except for Columbia, which is a reach for everyone). I’m applying to UNC Chapel Hill and I know that they have some very good scholarships–are you applying early there for some of them?
Granted I have very little idea about many of the schools on your list–but I’m from California and I can say that UC Berkeley, simply because you aren’t from the state, is probably a reach. JHU is a low-reach/high-match, in my opinion.

Dude I’m sorry I didn’t see this. Your MMA activity is unique. Your SAT is high. Your rank, needless to say is high. I don’t know a lot about the colleges you posted, but I think UCLA would accept you. Columbia seems tough though.

Thanks guys, Columbia is tough for practically everyone so im not even gonna let that damped my spirits; it costs a lot of money (60k) and gives NO merit aid so even if i can get in, i prob wont go just because i will end up spending close to 500k for my 8 yrs of schooling.

Also, UNC wont give me any merit aid either since i am OOS =(
