Chance a Senior?

First post from a very anxious high school senior! Good luck to all who aspire to become part of BU’s Class of 2017!

Immigrant (moved to NJ at age 12)
Public high school

SAT: 1960 (600 CR, 660 M, 700 W)
ACT: Did not take
GPA: 3.8/4.3 U.W. (~3.5/4)
Rank: 22/372
AP classes: US History (5), Environmental Science, Statistics, Lang & Comp, Psychology, Calc AB, Economics, Art History

Will take these exams this year

Senior Sched: Fall Semester (Gym/Phys. Ed, AP Lang, AP Psych, AP Calc AB) & Spring Semester (AP Econ, Physics, AP Art History, TAPS - which is Teacher’s Apprentice Program)

Senior grades (thus far): 97 in AP Lang, 94 in AP Psych, and 89 in AP Calc

Rec: 1 very heartfelt and well-written letter from my APUSH teacher from junior year and 1 from one of my school’s vice principals.

EC/others: Varsity volleyball (4 years), Rutgers University Teen Summit for Climate & Environmental Change (1 year), NHS, Student Council Secretary, Homecoming Queen finalist, Heroes & Cool Kids (mentoring program in my state); my community service hours are all pretty much through these programs, part-time job since sophomore year

I also submitted separate applications for the Trustee Scholarship and the Kilachand Honors College - seriously just wanted to be involved in everything BU, since it is my top choice! I applied to CAS for History.

My essay topics were not relatively “interesting” or “unique” though I deem them highly personal, intimate, and reflective of who I am as a student, athlete, and history nutcase lol.

What do you think? Do I have a chance?

The kids I know who were admitted to BU are B / B- students. No AP classes (their school offers AP, but chose not to take them), some extra curriculars, not glowing like yours. I think your stats are well aboved the acceptances I know. Not sure about scholarships though.

i think you’ve got a 90% chance of being accepted… but it depends on the rest of the applicant pool. i got admitted early decision, with a 1930 SAT (BU’s average is 2050) but a 32 ACT (BU’s average is 28). similar ECs, and course load.

as for the trustee scholarship… i was going to apply, but then found out that the only people who have ever gotten the trustee scholarship had a 2100+ SAT score and beyond amazing ECs (started their own business, did work in third world countries, etc). so i don’t think you really have much a chance for the trustee… BUT you never know what other scholarships you might get! i got the presidential scholarship ($20k/yr) and i never in a thousand years thought i would. you still have a chance for that!
& remember to make sure your essays are perfect!

@rossnrachel thank you! I know my reach on scholarships is pretty high…

@maskingtaped I just applied for the trustee to make sure I did everything I could to really get involved with the application process. I know that my chances are pretty darn low, but hopefully it gives me a boost on other scholarships! And congratulations on getting accepted and getting the presidential scholarship, that’s amazing!!

I think you are a match. Good Luck!
