Great essay
Great recommendations

I want to major in Biology.

As a URM (black), I can tell you that SAT IIs don’t matter here (you probably need them for the other schools of similar caliber that you are probably applying to). Your GPA may need to go up some. Yeah, but our SATs (Math/Verbal) are pretty close (1380 highest single sitting, 1410 superscore, which they do so take that into account). Though my performance on the writing section makes my 3-way composite score far higher (almost got perfect). I don’t know how much the writing matters. Seems that many freshmen here don’t write that well (as expected by profs. of political science/history courses) despite their SAT scores on writing or verbal.

Also, are you skeptical about Emory as an institution, or your chances for admission?

You need not worry about either. You have decent chances (even though the GPA may be sketch, even for a URM) at Emory and most peers.

Those great ECs may be able to seal you fate as an admitted student though.

Ashamed that this process is so formulaic for all top schools except for Ivies.
(no telling whether someone will be admitted into one of those or not, no matter scores, GPA, or ECs. Plus, many are not as big on admitting URMs as they used to be).

Your essays need be meaningful. You know reflect someone who has character/heart as opposed to a person simply trying to impress admissions committees with millions of ECs. I hope that’s what you meant by great essays.

If you are applying, you only need to send in SAT Reasoning and perhaps your ACT which is OK. Send in both of those I guess.
