I love Colby and Bates in Maine and I would love to know my chances there!

Your stats put you in a good position for both schools, but at least at Bates, there is more to the puzzle. For example, Bates puts a great deal of weight on your level of interest in their school. That means a boost for ED applicants, of course. If you have visited and interviewed, that will help. If not, try to interview locally with an alum. Reach out to your admissions counselor by email and introduce yourself and let him/her know you plan to apply. Ask a question or two and, although time is running short for this, show up if there is a college fair this fall where he/she will be in your area in person. Also, keep up your grades this fall; schools may ask your counselor for a senior mid term report.

Colby also wants to see interest in the college, and is also interested in hearing about which of your ECs are true passions that will follow you through college…what do you look forward to bringing to the Colby community as a student?

If you can’t get up to Maine, arrange for a local alumni interview. I believe both schools offer them, I know for certain Colby does, and that the alumni report is considered part of the application.

Both schools are very hard to get accepted to, Colby slightly more so than Bates. Your stats put you in a good position, but always remember that this admissions process is often a crapshoot with elite schools. Best of luck!
