Chance a soulless applicant for top schools?

Hi there,

I'd like to hear your opinions on my chances to get into some of the ivies. My main concern is whether or not my above-average numbers can offset my unremarkable extracurriculars and lack of visible, non-academic passion.

Academics
[ul]
[] SAT I: 2400
[] SAT II:
800 Chem
800 World History,
800 Math II,
800 Physics,
760 Spanish,
760 US History
(not planning to report last 2, please let me know if you think this is a good idea)
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0
[] Rank: 1/~400
[] AP:
Haven't gotten junior year scores back yet: numbers in parentheses are conservatively projected based on APPass

Physics C: Mech: (5)

So that's alright so far; things kind of go downhill from here

Extracurriculars

All year quantities calculated for senior year.
Math Team: Captain (4 years, 2 as Captain)

Community Service

By the end of senior year, I will have:
84 hours from Beta Club

Skimpy, I know.

Also sad. I haven't done anything beyond the state level
[]I was accepted into a prestigious, government-paid summer camp for my state (Georgia Governor's Honors Program)
[]I won a state prize for an article I co-wrote for the school newspaper in sophomore year
[]I got first place in my state in a Spanish competition.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

BTW, sorry for formatting errors. I accidentally posted this thread early and wasn’t able to finish fixing everything before the 20-minute limit expired. Sorry!

Those extracurriculars are NOT weak. You’re president of 3 clubs and captain of another. You should have a good chance of getting into Duke, Brown, and Columbia. You should also consider applying early to one of the HYPS, as it would slightly boost your odds of getting in.

For the record, if you don’t live in North Carolina then UNC chapel hill is more of a reach than Duke. You will get into your safety and “matches” which might be more safety like based on your test scores (very impressive btw). You have a shot at all of those schools but HYPS & Brown are still reaches. They are for everyone. I would say you have a fairly good shot at Duke and even Columbia (high match/low reach)!

If OOS, UNC is about as high of a reach as Vanderbilt, which, in turn, is lower than Duke. But it is true that many OOS admits at UNC are cross-admits at Duke.

Damn, those test scores are incredible! Given nice letters of rec/decent application essays, I’d say you pretty much have a place anywhere.

@Catria:

Yes, I have several friends who have been accepted to both Vandy and Duke but rejected from UNC ( we live in Indiana) because of the OOS regulations of North Carolina. (82% rule).
