George Washington " "

Again, if you do chance, thank you very much

I cannot imagine any school turning you down with that record =)

I’d say Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, and Yale -low chance
Columbia-decent chance
Gerogetown, Notre Dame, American U, and George Washington-in
Here’s why: Your gpa is extremely high, however i (aswell as some colleges) may find a problem with the lack of correlation between your gpa and your SAT score. A 2120 is most definitely on the low side for most of these colleges. Also your awards/ accomplishments are decent-nothing stand out/amazing. And these top ivys want something amazing.
You have great volunteer work but your ECs look (just my opinion) like that of someone who is doing things just to get into college. There is only one activity that you did for 4 years. Most of them are only two (it looks like a lack of dedication).
Also your potential majors list makes it look like you are someone who hasn’t really made up his mind about what he is interested in. In your essays try to make yourself sound like someone who has a focus and isn’t just all over the place.
Good Luck =)

Thanks guys,

and coolblues, i know there is no exact formula to chancing, but in your opinion, what do you think i need to get my sat and act scores up to in order for me to have a decent chance at HYPS? (if you even think they can make that much of a difference?)

and also, I am thinking about quitting Xc and track next year to have more time for everything else, I would assume that this might add more of an image of lack of dedication, and i know, of course, you dont know the other variables, but what do you think?

thanks again and if you guys need to be chanced back, just let me know

well, that depends on what you consider a decent chance. i don’t think that anyone has a “decent” chance at HYPS… but if you want to stand a chance there then i’d say 2300+ if you don’t plan on improving anything else, 2250 + if you do. Your SAT scores can make a difference because despite what some schools say, they do have somewhat of a numerical cut off point. There is no reason to already put yourself at a disadvantage by having a significantly lower score than their accepted averages.
About quitting XC and track- those seem like the two activities that you have dedicated the most time to and since you will become co-captain, it shows that you were actually doing something there, which is always good. so imho i would not quit. besides what are you going to do with that time? improve your already strong gpa? or join more clubs? because i don’t think either of those are worth qutting for.

well, i was thinking just to have time to apply for scholarships, more time focused on college applications, and my schedule is going to be a bit harder next year (5 AP’s), but that is a really good point you raised about since I am really involved in that. Thanks

And reading over your post and others 2300+ seems to be what everyone suggests for the Ivies. Any thoughts on what this number should be for the ACT? Based purely off of max score, 2300 is equivalent to a 35. Does that sound about right?

and if anyone else is reading this please feel free to chance. I know your out there :)

ECs for me do not indicate of any passion in a single area. I think that’s the most important. Your ECs are spread thinly in many areas; I think that focusing in a single area your passionate and good at is better. You have great stats and SATs by the way(In my opinion they’ll hold up for ya), but the ECs would make it or break it for you.

Gtown, American, Notre Dame and GW are matches for you.

Chance back please?

thanks :)

for the act about 34/35 is where you should be aiming- equivalent of 2280-2330 sat

Get that SAT up just a bit, and I think your in any of those schools :)

plz help me out, I need some real advice
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/911042-new-york-schools.html</a></p>

thanks guys

anyone know if these colleges prefer a strong sat score over a strong act score in the admissions process? (i know they all accept both), also does anyone know if these schools superscore the sat and/or act?

and will being Catholic help me at Gtown and Notre Dame (Catholic Colleges)? or is it possible that it might help me even a little bit at the others, since Catholics are less numerous in this country then protestants? Or is it even remotely possible that it will hurt my chances at American U (Methodist)?

I would assume ‘no’ to all these questions, but if anyone has their thoughts plz comment,
and everyone and anyone else plz feel free to comment

i hate to do this, but i am going to have to bump

I’m pretty sure that being Catholic helps when applying to a Catholic college because it shows that you have a strong foundation in the Catholic values that the college was founded on. I don’t think that it will be a huge factor but if a decision must be made between your application and another equally qualified application for admission then you will have an advantage since you are Catholic if the other applicant is not. It won’t hurt your chances at American since colleges cannot discriminate against religion and with your stats I’m sure that you will get in. I don’t know if being a Catholic helps gain admission into college even though Catholics are less numerous than Protestants. I too am Catholic but when I apply to college next year I’m leaving religion out of my resume. Catholics face too much discrimination! I don’t want someone’s opinion of the Catholic Church clouding their opinion of my application. I guess you’re kind of stuck though since you go to a Catholic School. Just don’t come across in your application as close minded or dogmatic in any way.

Thanks, very interesting, but for the record I got to a public school, but of course my religion will be evident in regards to 4 years of church activities.

pmub (bump spelled backwards, thought i make this bump a bit more interesting than the traditional bump)

BuMp

will chance back

All the HYPS will be a high reach, you really need a hook. The kids that got into Harvard from my school this year were not the perfect GPA’s with 2400’s, it was kids that were latin stars o.O Columbia is a reach, especially if you don’t get your SAT score up. I think Notre Dame is a match for you, georgetown is as well. I don’t know much about AU or GW, sorry. Overall you need to fix that SAT, and reduce your EC’s, you have a huge laundry list.

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/898730-chances-duke-penn-cornell.html</a></p>

Thanks, thanks.

And tjkid2011, what exactly do you mean by Latin stars?
