Honestly, you should give these universities the credit they deserve. They don’t automatically accept/reject an applicant based on their ethnicity. There is much more to the admission process.

I’m 1/4 Native American, but since I’ve never affiliated with a tribe I did not check that on my application. I was told (obviously by a sketchy source) that. basically, if you don’t live on a reservation or are listed as a member of a tribe you cannot claim that your Native American on official documents… idk

are you saying that Native Americans, Africans and Hispanics dont have an advantage??? Can you really say that??? No matter how u look at it, these people have advantages, u cant deny this fact. Asians are more numerous, focus more on their studies and achieve higher grades ( a school cant accept all asians) - talking from a general standpoint (of course there are exceptions)

What? I’m assuming ^ that post isn’t directed towards me because I’m not saying that! I’m just saying I didn’t know I was allowed to say that I was NA because i don’t live on a reservation, etc…I wish I had actually, hopefully that extra diversity would help my chances…

The issue is not that a school cant accept all Asians, it’s that not all Asians are qualified. Simply being Asian doesn’t make one smart.

And yes, I am saying that minorities do not have an advantage. There is enough working against them in today’s society, don’t add to the problem.

I think you need to look at people as individuals, not as byproducts of their ethnicity. Not all Asians are smart, not all qualified minorities are accepted based on their race. Stereotyping is an ugly habit, bud.

Look at it this way. Almost all schools have unofficial quotas for students of certain ethnic groups no matter what they claim.

If you look at the number of Native Americans who apply and the number of Asians who apply and then look at those acceptance rates, you will be astounded. Sticking to facts bud.

I’m going to go ahead and end this, because we have already ruined Josh66’s thread. The “fact” is, assuming that minorities will be accepted based solely on their race is absurd. And Bakke vs. University of California barred quota systems in college. It’s called affirmative action, and it’s a good thing. But this debate has been going on for ages.

All opinions aside, you shouldn’t use the fact that you’re Asian as an excuse to why you may not get accepted to a particular school. It could just be that you’re stats are sub-par or your essays weren’t stellar.

Regardless, one’s race is not the primary criteria for admission… an applicant needs stats to back it up. Let’s go ahead and end this… neither of us will win this argument.
