Thank you!! :] Im really stressed out...

I’m extremely curious about how you’re changing your GPA from a previous year…

Regardless of that I think you should be alright as long as you show a lot of interest in Lehigh. Honestly though, I’m not sure if your first essay topic is a good one. Obviously I haven’t read your essay so I don’t know this for sure, but a lot of people fall into a trap of talking about other people in their essay and barely relating it to themselves – your college admissions essay should be largely focused on you. Not only that, but unless the essay is spun very carefully, it might just come off as an excuse (I’m sorry if this sounds insensitive, I’m just trying to help!).

As an example of what I said earlier, a poor essay with your topic would focus on the surface, i.e. my friend almost committed suicide so that was distracting because I was so wrapped up in their ordeal. A better version would discuss how a potential suicide made you focus on living life to the fullest, caring about others, noticing small details of behavior, empathy, etc. You could take it even further and discuss how you sometimes need to focus on yourself though over others, but that might be a little harsh.

Tortillaboy -

I’ll make this much more brief than I normally do since I’m very tired!

Your GPA is fine, both weighted and unweighted. It’s not high but it’s not low either. It’s good that your weighted is so much higher as it shows you have taken a great deal of accelerated classes.

Your senior year schedule is very rigorous, even in comparison with the rest of your acedemic career. This is fantastic as it’ll show the adcoms that you continue to push yourself.

Taking 6 AP classes is commendable! Keep it up.

You’re ECS are good because of the theme of volunteering that they share. It’s always best to have a theme and not just a laundry list. Assuming you hold leadership positions and can convey them on paper, you should be fine in this regard, too.

Work experience is ALWAYS a plus.

I actually agree with the poster above me. Although there’s no such thing as a bad essay topic, I worry that you will write a piece that comes across more like an excuse than anything else. The second essay is much better but sounds like you’re trying too hard to please the adcoms. Just be yourself!

All in all, you should have an above average chance at Lehigh. Assuming you show interest, Lehigh can be considered a match for you. Well done, and hopefully we’ll be the class of 2017!!

Best regards,

 • Mike

Thanks for the responses, and in regards to the essay topic, ya I talked to my counselor about it and she believes that I should mention it if she herself is going to talk about it in my letter of rec from her.

And ya what I originally thought about was using it to demonstrate that I see the value in life and how with my education it will help me improve my capabilities so that I can give back to my community and less fortunate ones when I am older. After having to constantly console my friend I have a much greater outlook on life (having to write out the importance of life everyday for about almost a year can really do that to you…)

And my gpa has changed to a 3.51 UW and a 3.95 W, 3.54 UW & 4.04 for 10-12 grade.

Some of my teachers agreed to bump up my high b+'s to A-'s if I got an A in their class the 2nd semester of Junior year

Thanks for the replies!
