Well you’re grade/E.C. seem solid but you’re test scores are a little low because you’re Out of Country. Try to get them up!!
40-50%

Michigan does not superscore, what was your highest SAT in a single sitting?

33 IB points will not be sufficient to get you into Michigan. Michigan typically expects a minimum of 36 points, not including the 3 bonus points.

This said, you have good GCSE results and solid ECs.

I would say Michigan is a reach.

Heya spazman21,

I’m also an international student who was (thankfully) accepted into Michigan’s COE in the EA round. Now I don’t know what my predicted scores were but they in the range of 38-41 pts (including bonus) but my actual grades were much lower (35 pts without bonus).

As Alexandre and collegebound890 pointed out your SAT scores and IB scores are rather low for Michigan, but I have known people to get in with 34 IB points and I wouldn’t necessarily call the 36 points an absolute minimum. If I were you I’d really work on getting your predicted scores up. Talk to your college counselor and ask whether you can send revised predicted grades and then talk to your teachers about “your potential” and how you think you can move up. Explaining how you feel that you can get a six or seven in their subject with your test scores or coursework in that subject as proof can do wonders!

Another possibility is talking to your EE supervisor and TOK teacher into working out how to maybe move that one bonus point to two. If your school works like mine where our predicted bonus points work on what we have already achieved (e.g. >40 gets 3 pts, >36 gets 2pts etc.) then talk to your college counselor about the possibility of making an exception. Try do this ASAP as Michigan and talk to your college counselor about sending the revised grades off, as even a one point increase can really make the difference.

Finally I wouldn’t bother with SAT2 tests for Michigan anymore, UMich doesn’t require them and your scores aren’t fantastic. Just try and get and SAT1 scores up as much as possible - I’d recommend focusing on CR in your case. Make sure you do lots, and lots, and lots of practice. Yes it is a pain since each test is 4-5 hours long but it does do wonders.

Best of luck! Michigan is a reach but not an impossibility :)
