You sound like a wonderful candidate for Barnard.

Thank you so much!! :) That makes me feel a lot better...

I agree with mythmom. Make sure your essays reflect your passion (medical careers/science, I assume?). Check out opportunities at Barnard/Columbia for research interships in the summer and during the school year on campus and around the city so you know what is available and can speak clearly about why Barnard would be a great place for you. Check out SURF (Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships) and the Amgen Scholars program, for exapmle.

Best to you!!

I agree with the above posts. If you really want to go to Barnard and make them feel it in the essays, you are very strong applicant.

I think you have a chance, but are you applying regular decision?

No, I'm probably applying early action.

Barnard doesn't have EA, only ED and RD.

To clarify, Barnard offers the opportunity to apply Early Decision (ED) which means you know if you get in or not by some time early in December. It also means you need to be sure you can afford to attend because you must withdraw all other college applications once accepted ED. In other words, it's "binding". A benefit is that, statistically, your chances of being accepted ED are better than in the Regular Decision pool.

Sorry if you already knew all of this.

Best to you as you get ready to apply!

Oh snap! Well, this sort of puts a damper on my plans. I'll probably apply regular decision then...

Barnard was emphatic in its assurance that S would be released from the agreement if the FA was inadequate. We were really encouraged to apply even though we needed FA.

As it happens DD was deferred, then accepted. Barnard's package was the second most generous. Only Mt. Holyoke's was better. D decided to go to Barnard, of course, her ED dream school.

So you can apply ED and then not go if the finances don't work for you with no black eye. Barnard will put in writing that it released you from you ED commitment.

However, you will then probably be restricted to state and merit-schools because no other school is going to give you much more.
