Non-Hispanic/White
Male
Resident of San Diego County
No alumni relations to speak of (Mom graduated from Albany Medical, Dad didn't go to college)
No religious affiliation

GPA unweighted: 3.45
GPA weighted: 3.6207 (Both this and the unweighted will likely increase when the second-semester grades for this year come in)
ACT with writing (single): 31 (35 English; 34 Reading; 30 Science; 26 Math)
SAT with writing (single): 2150 (780CR 610M 760W)
Four AP classes taken so far, with another 3 on the schedule for next year
Pretty well-regarded public high school, for what that's worth-- it's nationally ranked.

Extracurriculars:
Boy Scouts (Life; going for Eagle. I have until next February before my time is up)
Drama (Big part of the school's drama program; Theater Guild officer; varsity letterman; lead roles in the last six plays I've been in, including a musical)
Football (quarterback, albeit a not very good one)
Around 80 volunteer hours-- I've worked with a conservation group in Encinitas, near my home, and volunteer annually at UCSD Medical Center's "Little Grads Picnic". I'm looking for a few more opportunities, as they'll look good.
Academic Team: Two years JV so far. Voted MVP this year. Will participate on varsity next year.

Intended major: Drama/Theater Arts or Acting

Schools (bear with, there are a load of them!):
Adelphi
AMDA (Acting BFA, not conservatory)
Arizona State
Bennington
Boston U
Cal State Long Beach
Chapman
DePaul
Emerson
Florida State
Fordham
NYU
Ohio University
U. of British Columbia
U. of San Diego
UNC Arts

AMDA and UNCSA could probably be written off due to their disproportionate emphasis on an audition, as opposed to grades. What about the rest?

The GPA is in flux a little bit; I have the potential to pull the weighted all the way to a much-more-impressive 3.8 if I get excellent grades this semester (3 AP classes will give you that kind of potential “oomph”)… ;)

GPA: A little low, but you know this already.
SAT: Reading and writing are stellar. Math is good enough for most of the universities.
EC: Good. You’ve got sports, art, and academics with a focus on theatre.

You should be in for Arizona State, Florida State, Fordham, Boston, and Emerson. You have a decent shot at NYU. The GPA and Math scores may bring you down a bit, but everything is else is great.

BU
Emerson
Depaul
NYU
It will depend on auditions you have the academics , but if you go for theater acting close to 50% will depend on the audition. Good luck!!

Great stats, and as a fellow musical/theater kid, love all your EC’s! You’ve got a good balance, and the eagle scout will help you so much in getting into all of these schools! The only true negative in your application is that your GPA is a little low, but for the schools you are applying to, that shouldn’t be an issue (Except for maybe NYU and Boston).
That being said, so many theater programs are very big on auditions. It’s really hard to tell about that just because I honestly have no idea what kind of actor/singer you are, but according to your roles, you are a very good one. In any case, I can only really say what I think in regards to academics, but a great audition will guarantee your slot!

Adelphi - in
AMDA (Acting BFA, not conservatory) - match/high match
Arizona State - in (scholarships for a non-acting program as well, I’d imagine)
Bennington - match
Boston U - high match/low reach
Cal State Long Beach - match/high match
Chapman - Don’t really know this school…sorry!
DePaul - Match
Emerson - so much on auditions, I can’t really say
Florida State - match/high match (Raise the GPA a bit, it’ll help here!)
Fordham - match
NYU - low reach/reach (depending on your audition! Tisch is ridiculous!)
Ohio University - in
U. of British Columbia - match/high match
U. of San Diego - match/high match
UNC Arts - really dependent on audition

Overall, good list, good stats, good luck! :]

Thanks Staryulover! That was extremely helpful. Not to brag, but if it’ll clarify the point, here’s a quick look at my resume (all with the high school, unfortunately. I’ve made early inroads into doing repertory theater next year, but it’s iffy). There’s a few other ensemble roles in there from my freshman year, but those will be padding on the application, rather than anything to brag about.

Lord Edgar/Jane the Chambermaid-- The Mystery of Irma Vep, coming soon!
Max Steuer-- The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire Project, March 2011
Avram (understudy Tevye/Lazar Wolf)-- Fiddler on the Roof, February 2011
Jacques-- As You Like It, November 2010
Leo Clark-- Leading Ladies, March 2010
Lucentio-- The Taming of the Shrew, November 2010

Thanks bopo! UNCSA is one of the only ones that worries me, because I know several great actors who’ve been waitlisted or worse by them-- and I’ve read about a lot on this site too. Fingers crossed and BUMP.

I think you have a very solid shot at all of them but granted I am no expert on in theatre or acting… Your SAT is very impressive and your GPA wont hurt you that badly

…I am so fantastically out of my depth chancing you, StrangeBro. All I can say is that SATs might be a bit low for schools that look at those and for schools that really scrutinize your ECs, I’m sure drama club and football will be an interesting contrast?

Arizona State - in (no problem, really)
Bennington - match (expensive, though; only do it with merit aid)
Boston U - low/mid reach, but theatre may change it
Cal State Long Beach - probably match, although I’m not knowledgeable about the CSU system
Chapman - match/low reach
Florida State - high match
Fordham - match
NYU - high reach, but I’m not really sure about theatre enrollment
Ohio University - in

If UBC follows the method of most other Canadian universities, then the primarily look at your marks and don’t care as much about your extracurriculars. I think if you can get your GPA up a bit more and write some good essays you’ll be a match for UBC. I’m not very familiar with the other schools you’re applying to seeing that I’m from Canada so I’m sorry that I can’t offer you much advice on them.

@btbam: Thanks for the info! UBC is pretty hard to find information on, so that’s a bit frustrating, and anything I can learn about them is quite helpful.

@Stevenf: ASU borders on a fallback for me. If it’s possible to do so whilst still being a theater major, I’m considering submitting to their honors college. And there’s not a chance I could afford Bennington (or many of these others, for that matter) without aid-- need or merit based.

@Portia: It’s no problem! We can’t all be Ivy Leaguers (as a matter of fact, the only Ivy with a decent performing arts programs is Yale…). I may retake the SAT to raise my math score-- the subject has historically been my Achilles’ heel.
