<p>Actually, being in state is in no way a hook for Pomona. If anything, it’s more competitive to apply as a Californian than an out of state student, not less. You can imagine how many people apply from California, but Pomona fills only 1/3 of its class each year with Californians.</p>

<p>Your SATs are good but your GPA is a bit low for Pomona. And those 3’s on the APs aren’t going to look very good. If there were any extenuating circumstances that contributed to your performance during freshman year, I would suggest discussing them in your application (Pomona’s app has a question designed especially for this). Otherwise, your senior year courseload is solid. Try to do your very best this semester - in fact, even this whole year in case you get waitlisted!</p>

<p>And while you’re at it, definitely look at the east coast SLACS (Williams, Amherst, Swarthmore)- except for less warm weather, these schools are tops in the country and will diversify your chances. All are super selective, but Pomona has a monopoly on the west coast (unless you count CMC, Reed) given the paucity of great LAC’s west of the Mississippi and the huge population on the west coast.</p>
