Hey everyone...

I'm currently a freshman at the University of Michigan. I came here because I am in-state and didn't really look into other options as much as I should have. I'm sick of seeing people from my high school around every corner, and although Ann Arbor is quaint, I'd prefer a more urban setting. I'd love to transfer to Penn as a sophomore, so what do you guys think my chances are?

HS unweighted GPA: 3.9 (school doesn't rank)
I took 5 of the 8 APs my school offers, and every honors course offered
SAT: 710 verbal, 710 math, 750 writing with an 11/12 essay (didn't take II's)
solid ec's, great recs

This semester I'm taking 16 credits (economics, sociology, physical geography, and a writing course). At worst, I'm looking at a 3.4, but a 3.65 is realistic. I'm joining a fraternity here, and I'm in the pre-law club.

What are my chances? If low, what can I do to improve them?

edit: I realize it's called "college" at Penn, not arts and sciences. Chance away...

It's too late to edit this, but let's just assume I get at least the 3.65 because I know 3.4 is too low...thanks

if you guys chance me and i get in, i'll find you on campus and give you a pack of fruitstripe gum...sound good?

Your GPA is on the low end. Your high school record, on the other hand, is impressive. If you are REALLY set on UPenn, wait a year to transfer and increase your GPA. My verdict for now is unfortunately no.

how about if I get a 3.7? would that be more realistic for admission?

also would penn be able to evaluate my second semester grades if they start sending decisions out may 1st?

I'm on a bus going back to campus, but I will PM you when I get back. To answer your last question, Penn does not calculate transfer credits upon exceptance per say. When you are admitted, the Transfer Admissions department sends you a list of courses they think might transfer and which departments you have to go to get the credit. Each credit has to be approved by an appropriate department, not by admissions.

For example, I had taken a Fine Arts class before I transferred. Transfer Admissions made me think it would transfer and gave me the department to apply to the credit for. Ultimately, it did not though[which sucks:(].
